We arrived at Taco Al’s at 2 o’clock, well past the lunch crowd. Our order was number 31, and we were quite disappointed to realize they were only on number 18. I ordered the nachos, which didn’t taste bad, but they were definitely not Mexican food—not even Tex-Mex. The best comparison I can make is saying SpaghettiOs are Italian. The lady taking orders was the most unfriendly person I’ve encountered in this line of business. It was clear she did not want to be there or deal with the public. They should let one of the younger, happier workers greet people. It was cold outside, and while we were eating, a homeless person came in, evidently known in that place. In a small town like Topeka, I would think they would offer a cup of coffee or at least respite from the cold for 20 minutes. Instead, they immediately asked her to leave and discussed loudly enough for customers to hear about checking the side door and making sure she wasn’t loitering in the back of the building out of the wind. I gave the meal two stars only because it was edible and not terrible. The unfriendly environment, however, gets a big fat zero.

Great lil out of the way mom and pop shop with friendly service every time! Whether your taking your food on the go or staying in their cozy dinning area our family loves this place! You may get lucky and run into the original Taco AL himself! If not at least his daughter Julie should be behind the counter slinging tacos to perfection!

Awesome local place to eat. The employees are wonderful. And if you don’t like tomatoes like I do lol remember to say NO tomatoes. I already made that mistake. Anyway I recommend going to here if you want to get something good food at a nice local place.

Giving this place TWO stars is GENEROUS. The only good thing was the when we were greeted immediately walking in the door and the young man taking orders at the counter was very nice and helpful. He knew the menu and what everything had. Why I gave 3 stars is because the older lady up front didn't have good customer service skills and another gentleman with red hair and a long beard only had a beard hair net but no regular hair net which we thought was odd since his hair was long enough to need a net too...

The whole place was very claustrophobic and the seating didn't allow you to have movement inside the bench and table. There wasn't any wiggle room and not a lot of space for people to walk in and out.

For the food...it was disgusting. I'm white and I don't care if this sounds rude but maybe some will understand this, this food was white people attempting Mexican food and it was gross. We ordered a burrito grande and a super Sancho with chili con queso and mild sauce. The chili con queso was a joke. It's basically the canned nacho cheese watered down and with taco seasoning mixed in. The food lacked flavor even with lots of salt. To put it frankly, the food sucked and was disappointing...

If they could make their queso better, it could've made it better...

This place used to be amazing. The attitude of the staff now just makes me never want to eat there again. The food quality has also been going down. I always order the sanchalada and even get two more to go for later but I ended up throwing the other two in the trash. The meat tastes funny now. Don't know what they did to it but it's not worth it anymore. Add that to the attitude of the staff and I will take my hard earned money somewhere else

The place really acts like you need them more than they need you. Very bad attitude. I've been going there for years and over the last year is when I've noticed the change.

My last time there was my LAST time there.

I recommend going somewhere that appreciates you and your...
