Taqueria Los Güeros — Restaurant in Totowa

These chains are awesome. It's not easy to get authentic (or as close to authentic as possible) Mexican tacos in jersey. But thanks to Los güeros, it's getting easier.

My favorite tacos are the Mexican tacos (four, double corn tortilla tacos with your choice of meat (I switch between pastor and carnitas) with onions, cilantro, avocado and jalapeño (definitely get pineapple with that, it's awesome)) and the chilangos (be merciful, I'm not a spelling bee champion) tacos (2 extra large tortillas filled with your choice of meat (again, pastor and carnitas for me) and I can't remember all of the toppings off the top of my head, but it's great). Another favorite of mine is their hotdog (pretty hard for a hotdog to stand out in this area with all of the great dog places we have), loaded with all of the good stuff (definitely pay the extra for bacon).

The best thing about these restaurants is every time I go to place an order, there's always something on the menu that I haven't tried yet. The alambres (again, I can't spell to save my own life) are always a filling and interesting choice. More of a build your own taco platter or more of a fajita for carnivores type dish. Their burritos are huge, but not as big as their burrito bowls (I can never finish it in one sitting. Delicious). Their tortas are good. Their flautas and taquitos are outstanding. Their spicy onions (onions that are brined with habanero peppers 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🚒) are definitely worth asking for along side of their red and green salsas. The beverage selection is fantastic (I always get tamarind soda and sangria soda).

As for this establishment in particular, wonderful. Staff is very friendly and patient. They're quick to fulfill orders. Very clean facility.

I don't usually post reviews but I am posting this one now. This was my first time at this restaurant and I must say the food was horrible! I waited for 20 minutes while the guy in the back continued to do food prep. He finally came and threw some food on a plate none of which was hot or even warm. The only heat was the excessive amount of black pepper. It was suppose to be the Sunday Special which the sign shows as a quarter chicken breast and wing, rice and black beans. When I mentioned it to the cashier, she said: "No it's only a leg and thigh." I asked her then why does the sign advertise otherwise." I said to her: "Your advertisement is misleading because it shows a picture of a meal that cannot be purchased." I should have followed my first instinct, and simply continued with the refund. She called someone about the refund and sign. She said she would get her to change the sign. I usually try restaurants a couple of times because everyone has an off day. However, I am making an exception in this case because the food and service was so bad. The guy making the food takes no pride in the food he is serving and customer service is like the low man on the totem pole. Don't waste your money. I had a bad experience the first time, but I decided to give it another shot since it’s close to home. Came to the conclusion that NEVER AGAIN will I step foot in this place. For starters, there were no customers in the store or orders coming in from what is seemed like, so I don’t understand why it took the cook 5-10 minutes just to come out from the back & start preparing our food. The meat was once again bland. We were served what looked like previous day meat. I ordered tacos de carnitas and the meat was undercooked even though I asked for it to be WELL DONE. The “meat” was WAY too fatty and our plates were more filled with more grease than food. My boyfriend ordered a quesadilla with carnitas & he couldn’t even finish his food because the tortilla got soaked by all the grease. When I brought it to the attention of the cashier, who seemed like she didn’t want to be bothered & she said “that’s how it is”. I’ve been to different locations and NEVER has the food OR customer service...
