This is Wingnutz's new location which soft opened in December. I was there for their first day of business, where there was a line out the door from the first moment the doors unlocked.
Since then I have visited a few more times during dinner to try out some more food. Wait times have improved, with tables being available upon walking in for individual or doubles seating, and for a small wait with larger groups. Much of this seems to be thanks to Wingnutz figuring out the dine-in situation, as this seems to be their first full-blown dine-in location. Some of this may also be due to Football season coming to a close and just being less busy. The bar is typically lively, and there is a small game area next to the bar with Bubble Hockey, Darts, a claw machine, and a Golf game. There is a nice seating area by the bar which can be reserved. Once the weather warms up, there is an outdoor seating area with a TV and speakers for people to enjoy.
Atmosphere wise, the guests I've seen at the bar and restaurant are friendly and respectful. No rowdiness or excessive drinking. The music is typically at a comfortable volume, as well as the TV volume when Sports events are taking place. A couple times I've visited, there have been live streamed podcasts and shows performed near the Bar, which certainly draw a crowd. There are plenty of TVs around, although a good handful of them look to be old, and the backlights are going out on them. With that said, I have seen the TVs being replaced with new units since their opening. There is an Internet Jukebox available at the bar for people to play music with, and also by the front entrance is a wall set up specifically for guests to sign their name using some provided markers as a guestbook, which is a pretty cool touch.
Building wise - This is a suite on the ground level of a large apartment building. The inside of the restaurant has been remodeled since Santoras was here, and the space has been brightened up and modernized. Overall it is kept clean, and the staff are quick to clean up any spills or trash. The facility is wheelchair accessible and easy to get in and out of.
Service and staff wise, overall things are good. They do consistently show up to make sure everything is okay, and there hasn't been a time where I've needed to flag down someone to get my drink refilled on time or to get my check. Everyone is friendly and seems happy. Early on there were some rough periods where getting a table meant hanging around the bar for a while and checking back in at the front counter, since there is no paging system, but that hasn't been an issue as of late.
Payment wise - This place accepts Credit Cards and Cash. They also support payment from a smartphone using Google Pay and Apple Pay via QR Code, which I appreciate.
Room 40 - This is their reservable party room located at the back of the restaurant, furthest from the bar. I've taken a peek inside, and it seems pretty nice. There is a projector screen with a clear image on one end of the room, and a few TVs along one of the walls. Plenty of space for a birthday party or holiday gathering of of 40-50 I'd say.
I've also been here for lunch when it is less busy, and have unpacked my laptop to get some work done. There is Guest Wi-Fi available which is very fast.
Now, food wise: I really enjoy coming here for their Pizzas, as well as the Poutine. Their pizza dough is tasty and cooked just right, and I usually get Cheese, onion, sweet sauce, and Pepperoni. The flavor hits the spot! The Poutine I find is heavy on the fries, but otherwise hearty and garlic-y. Might not be true to Canadian style, but it's still good. Both are reasonably priced, $20 or less. As for the wings: I have not enjoyed them as I do not eat Wings, but others I've visited with have said they are some of the best wings they've eaten. Per them: the sauce is tasty, the wings are huge and filling, and they reheat well if you have to take them out. At $2 per wing they might be pricey. I'm told they're...
Read moreI was REALLY looking forward to dining here for a few weeks. I am a huge fan of wings. I've been to many of the big guns, Duffs, Bar Bill, Gabriel's Gate, Anchor Bar, La Nova and many of the local pizzerias in Buffalo, etc. but I have to say it did not live up to the hype.
The wings were big, but I didn't care for the "coating" (make sure you don't call them 'breaded'...). I got the wing flight of 12 wings ($26 + $3 upcharge for all drums) which is a REALLY cool concept, but there was no knowing of what wing was what sauce so if you wanted to get more of the one you like later, it is just a guessing game. Was this Buffalo Hot? Wingnutz hot? Medium? Signature? Who the heck knows. Not the worst things I've ever eaten but not a traditional wing (not talking about the sauces but wings themselves) from Buffalo. Which is fine to do something different, and I went in with an open mind, but it was disappointing. I enjoyed 4 of the flavors alot, but the rest were from bad to OK. Don't ask me the names of the 4 I liked because I have no clue.
+1 for half price apps and $1 wings from 4-6p and for still having happy hour on the weekends, and not having to sit at the bar for said prices. $1 wings didn't apply to the wing flight though. No discount there.
Full price for everything is bonkers.
For the others in my party, when one person orders 10 wings and another 5 wings you are supposed to get 2 blue cheese's according to the menu, but they only brought out one tray with one blue cheese to split amongst the 15 wings. We asked for another and they charged extra even though it should have come with 2 to begin with.
Wife enjoyed the "dead flower" pizza.
Chicken wing dip was cheesy but had very little chicken and something hard was in one of my bites (bone? I had to spit it out)
Mozz sticks were decent. Nice cheese pull.
Service was not so good. Wrong app brought out (we were supposed to get the chicken wing dip egg rolls not the dip/tortilla chips, she just have misunderstood or misheard me) and I even spoke up but the runner dropping it off just ignored us. It seemed like every table was waiting for service in the whole half of the building.
Paid online because we waited for server to come by for my $$$ but nobody came after 10-15 min.
+1 for having Loganberry (though I had to ask, no soft drinks on the menu I could see)
+1 for the chuckle when all the TVs timed out on the Spectrum cable box.
No interest in going back. Total bill for 4 (WITH happy hour discounts, no alcohol) was $114.00 after tip.
Honestly some of their other food not involving chicken wings looks really good, and they were very responsive on Facebook to my questions before visiting, and they post their specials etc online which is very good. Very much appreciate the online presence.
Some might like the wings, try them yourself, but it's just not for me. Don't go expecting a "Buffalo" wing, which to their credit, they don't hide that they are coated, but it just wasn't that...
Read moreGreat food, but do not dine in for a game night. We went for a Bills game night, and figured it would be packed, and didn't think we would get seated right away without a wait. To our surprise, we were able to be seated within 2 minutes of us arriving there, but it all went downhill from there. We were not waited on for at least 20 minutes, even though the other tables around us who were seated after us were waited on and were even served food, and when a waitress finally came over to take our order and even just grab us waters, she had said that we were "not assigned" when we were seated. That should have been the first red flag. She did warn us that due to the crowd there would be a longer than average food wait time, which we again expected due to the Bills game, but we did not expect this wait time to be over an hour when other tables were not only getting their first order but second and third orders. They seemed to prioritize the table behind us for some reason, and even mixed up some of the food orders that were supposed to be for other tables and gave it to them (including, we think, a couple of appetizers that we ordered). When our order finally did come, the food was incredible, easily some of the best pizza and wings in Buffalo, but our waitress forgot to bring us plates for the pizza, and never bothered to check in with us until we were able to call her over during a lull. By that point, we just wanted the tab and to get out of there. It was clear that they prioritized the larger party behind us as the owner/creator, managers, and several of the waitstaff came up to talk to them and serve them more and more food that they didn't even ask for, and it made us feel a little neglected. I recognize that a lot of this was not the fault of the waitstaff entirely, especially not the food wait time, but some of the forgetfulness or mixing up tables really got under our skin by the end of the night. All in all, I would absolutely come back on a night that it was not busy or take out some of their food to go as it is really really great quality, but I would never venture back in there on a Bills game night when there are other options that I know are more attentive to every customer, not just larger groups...
