I don’t usually leave reviews on placed unless they were exceptionally good or absolutely horrendous. I was staying at this hotel with my family.
The reason I put location as a three is because it wasn’t convenient for us but we had no other option. However, if you decided to stay here for its convenient location next to the University of Buffalo, it’s very good.
The front desk staff was exceptional. The people who worked at the bar and cafe were extremely kind. +1 star for that (and the cookies :3) The reason I’m giving it a four is because our room was serviced, but we did not receive the amount towels that we needed. We were given one and we needed four. However, we were able to receive them easily.
Those are the only pros of this hotel. The rooms were absolutely horrendous. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures because of how quick and chaotic my trip was (which has nothing to do with the hotel).
The rooms that my family stayed in were 123, 125, and 308. The carpet in front of 123 and 125 was soaked. And when I say “soaked”, I mean there was 4 inches of water underneath the carpet. The leather shoes that my father and grandfather were wearing were ruined. It was so bad to the point of where my grandparents had to move from 123 to 308. There was also a dog barking all night, which was another factor.
We alerted the housekeeping staff about the water, but unfortunately they didn’t do anything.
As for my immediate family and I, we stayed the next night in 125. There were a few concerning things that I observed. The front door had a large crack in it. There was black mold everywhere in the shower. The metal of the doorframe in the bathroom was so rusty you could see it through the paint. The rust was on the floor, too. There was dust inside the air conditioning unit. I was walking around, barefoot, and after about 5 minutes the soles of my feet were so black that you would have thought I walked straight through dirt. The bathroom was extremely small and hard to move around in. The shower opened directly under the shower head, so it was hard to get into if I wasn’t washing my hair.
The next morning was alright (except for the dirty floors and small bathroom) until we walked out of the room. The water in the carpet got deeper. Luckily, we were checking out so we didn’t have much problem any longer.
It turns out that we had to come back to the hotel, so we went to 308 with my grandparents. This is a suite, so it’s much nicer, but there’s definitely some concerning things. The wood on the floor is chipped away, there’s another crack in the door, and there’s still black mold, rust, and dust in the bathroom.
Not to be a “Karen”, but my family has diamond status. All we got as a thanks was two, $2 bottles of water? We got $4 in thanks for all the hundreds of dollars that we spend on this hotel chain? And yes, we did get a $30 voucher, but the food wasn’t exceptional anyways. Plus it was overpriced. Seriously, do better.
It advertises the price as around $110-130 a night, but it’s more around $300.
This hotel doesn’t even deserve to be called a “Three Star Hotel”, or even have 3.9 stars. Please don’t waste your money and time here, it’s not worth it.
I’m very disappointed with Hilton right now. This isn’t the usual experience we...
Read moreMy mother and I stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton in Amherst from May 17-19. We had a room with a single king-sized bed and were there as cross border shoppers. Coles Notes: our room was $300USD and was absolutely not worth the cost. If you want to know more, read on. The staff is amazing. Dominique & Amick at the front desk, Sheila in housekeeping were all lovely folks who were doing their best. Hilton have Pelotons, so as a member I appreciate that. That ends my list of positive parts of this stay. The negatives far outweighs them. The room itself is worn and aged - there were holes in the shower and the finish was worn (chewed?) away under the fridge. Wallpaper is peeling. Carpet is worn in spots. The entire aesthetic is “1990’s needs a redo”. It is clear the hotel is shorting items to try to save money. No shower caps in the bathroom. One bar of soap (instead of the traditional one in the shower and one for washing hands, especially when the sink and shower are in two separate rooms as was the case here). My mother and I are tea drinkers - but there was only one bag of tea in a room meant for at least two people. Speaking of tea, you have to make tea in the coffee maker so it ends up tasting like coffee. Yuck. When we booked I was able to choose our room as I have the Hilton app. The room I chose had an adjoining door to its neighbour, which was not indicated on the hotel floor plan and which greatly increased the amount of noise we could hear from the neighbouring room. I would not have chosen this room if I’d known it had a door to a stranger’s room. There is no included breakfast, only a poorly-staffed, small and overpriced breakfast restaurant in the lobby. After one night in the hotel, we asked for entirely new towels - and more of them, as two small bath towels wasn’t enough - and piled the used ones in the shower. We received the same number of bath towels and the hand towels and bath mat were wet when we returned to our room that evening, prompting us to wonder if our used ones from the day before had just been folded and replaced. Gross. I did bring up all of these concerns with Amick, who was very accommodating and wrote it down for the (new?) owner of the hotel. I was given some compensation, and he did listen and seemed empathetic (he also didn’t seem like any of this surprised him). I would not recommend staying at this hotel - it is simply not worth the money. You can find a better room with breakfast for...
Read moreI booked two rooms on a weekend the rate was between $150 and $160 for the night. This hotel is located just off the I-290 in Amherst, and thankfully is far enough from the interstate, you cannot really hear much traffic.
Our experience with check-in was positive. The staff were helpful and answered any questions we had without issue.
On arrival, the exterior and the property generally look nice. Same with the lobby and hallways. It ends there.
Our first impression of the rooms is that they are small. There's not much room to move around once you get a family inside with any luggage.
The interior of the room was lacklustre to say the least. The laminate floor was dirty, with giant gaps to stub your toes on. The furniture is well used, and abused, and appeared to be hastily wiped down but not cleaned fully.
The minifridge was clean, but the freezer inside was full of frost. The coffee maker was dirty and didn't look appealing to use at all.
The TV worked, but froze up intermittently, becoming frustrating to deal with.
The bathroom is incredibly small, like REALLY small - with a toilet and small shower stall, barely big enough for a grown adult to fit in. Anyone with physical ailments or a larger person would have a tough time making it work.
There was hair on the floor of the shower stall, and on the bathroom floor. The corners of the floor, behind the toilet were dirty and full of dust.
We booked a room for two adults and two kids, but the room only had two towels. Again, the staff were helpful and arranged to get us more, but was disappointing this wasn't taken care of as part of the booking.
The beds themselves were clean, but underneath the beds (yes, there's an underneath the bed at this hotel) were disgusting. Tons of dust and dirt.
Both of the two rooms we booked were on the same state of cleanliness.
We had no problems with noise, other than hearing the toilet flush periodically from the room above.
We checked out the pool area. It was generally clean, but appears that some areas are in need of being freshened up.
I've stayed at a number of other Hilton hotels in the past, and have always had a great stay. Unfortunately this one missed the mark completely. I would not return to this hotel again, nor would I...
