La Plage Bistro — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

Review is a bit delayed but finally getting around to it. I love their Wading River location and high hopes for this location. My review is not based on the food as I did not have opportunity to try, rather based on my experience. Anyway our party had reservations for party of 3 at 6:30 pm on 8/20/25 (under S. Clancy) Arrived at 6:15pm restaurant was packed and no hostesses. 10 mins later a employee from behind the bar who was very much multitasking came to hostess stand and “checked our party in”, stated it would be a few. We sat in the waiting area. As parties kept arriving and no one the check them in. At one point there were 3 parties waiting for a hostess and no one was there. One party just left because it was raining and they had not where to stand. They were asking our party if we had seen a hostess, we explained only momentarily and not since. Fast fwd my party waited until 7pm (45 mins since arrival and 30 mins past our reservation) and no one ever came back to hostess stand so we left and went elsewhere. The parties that were waiting as well were there at least 15 mins before we left and still were waiting for a hostess. Seems like they were having staffing issues or unable to...

Went out for an early Sunday date with the hubs. We have been anticipating the opening of Bistro since we did frequent La Plage in its original wonder for quite some time. Well we were NOT disappointed whatsoever. We did not have a reservation and were seated immediately upon entering. The hostess was very kind and chatty. The atmosphere is calming and feels fresh especially for the village. It's a great place for an afternoon lunch, a dinner date or even just a cocktail or beverage after work. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious - the calamari was some of the best we have ever had and we order it everywhere we go. I had the Branzino Filet and hubs got the steak frites. it all was like butter-melted in our mouthes and we cannot wait to go back! this will be an added staple to our regular village dates and even better since we only live 5 min away!!! and kudos to our server Kevin who recommended our desserts which were the perfect ending! I’m hoping most of these are new restaurant kinks getting sorted out. We were seated 30 minutes late despite having a reservation and hostess was quite cold and inattentive despite the delay. Our salad wasn’t cleanly washed and could taste the grit in our teeth. Beef bourignon was a bit dry and tough although broth was flavorful. We had to check on our drink multiple times and the table next to us received their drinks before us although we were seated first. We tried to order bread with our main that was never put in. We had to check on our baked cookies despite ordering with our mains as instructed. Nothing was taken off our check despite the miss after miss after miss. If only one of these things happened we wouldn’t have given it a thought - we’re all human but everything all together at this price point unfortunately was a disappointment.
