A favorite restaurant for decades appears adrift.
It’s a rare restaurant lacking an owner-operator that can pull it all together for a pleasant dining stream. A restaurant that for all its charming quirks ran like clockwork for decades under owners Taylor and the much-beloved late Patricia feels now extremely disappointing and chaotic with no presence on the floor to safeguard its reputation.
Servers, aside from the very competent bartender, appear completely untrained. The hostess/maitre d’ was pleasant enough but completely unable and unwillingl to keep a what was happening before her eyes. Hot food out on cold plates arriving cold to lukewarm at the table. Cleared silverware not replaced before the next course’s arrival. Empty drinks classes and dirty side dishes left to sit on the table. The feeling that no one has a clue and no one is in charge.
The food, too, is inconsistent. Tonight and delicious and piping hot duck gumbo was followed by a chicken tikka masala that looked like a dog’ breakfast and bore no flavor resemblance to this iconic British pub food that was returned to the kitchen as inedible with zero interest on the part of management about what went wrong. Fried oysters are still delicious but pizza crust is just lousy and tasteless. A vegan entree was sent back to the kitchen because it too arrived cold. Inexplicable delays in almost everything ordered, and a disappearing act by our server left us asking for the check four times.
What used to be an entirely pleasant dining experience felt nothing short of careless and annoying incompetence. I hope they can pull it together. I love this place, but unless the owners start to show it some love, I fear...
Read moreJust visited this restaurant for the first time and must say, it was our only time, will never return. We were a party of 9...we were sitted and it took 1/2 hour for someone to finally notice us. We had two children with us and poor kids were hungry. We were very patient but after water was served, we were forgotten again for another half hour before order was taken. The owner, Tyler came to help set the table behind us, we pointed out to him time waiting had been an hour and he said, "it has not been that long". First mistake he made. Once order taken, it was another half hour before food was actually set on table. Not great for kids...menu not geared for children and no apple juice on menu. The prices set are not consistent with quality of food nor service. Pork chops were horrible and my husband's steak not of good quality meat. The locals may like this place but from an out of towner, we've eaten at less pricey restaurants with both delicious food and impeccable service. I normally do not do ratings but was so annoyed at being dismissed by the owner Tyler himself when leaving that we felt he could have offered an apology, he turned and gave us his back. We paid the bill and left a hefty tip for the waitress....that's what good people do. Read a rating from a year ago with same complaint. My daughter visited this establishment a month ago, she walked away with same sentiment, long wait,...
Read moreOur hosts brought us to The Bellport tonight and I am so thankful! It was a wonderful atmosphere, sitting on the porch. The food was delicious and every detail perfect. I ordered from the hand-written specials menu, fresh pasta with crawfish. The pasta was cooked perfectly (I make homemade pasta) the sauce was well balanced spicy with a hearty portion of fresh, well-cleaned, sweet succulent crawfish tails. For dessert I had a White chocolate creme brulee. The pudding was set well with an even creamy consistency and the top was a nice thick crunchy caramelized coat. I also sampled my cohort's peach cobbler for which my only response is: "I didn't know granny worked here." Tender, flaky balanced sweetness with tangy ripe peaches. It's not a place to go if you are on a strict budget, but it is worth it for...
