I’ve been here plenty of times and it’s usually good. I’m not sure if what happened today but let me start by saying when we arrived for our 5pm reservation for Hibachi, the host looked completely confused and said “one minute”. He walked to the back and then came back and started to seat other guests in the dining area. A few minutes later he seats us at a hibachi table. A waiter came over a couple of minutes later and asked if we were ready to order and we hadn’t even had a chance to look at the menus yet. We ordered drinks and he came back a few minutes later and asked if we were ready to order, at that point we put in our orders. Then the chef comes out does a quick half assed hibachi show and soon after he finished up, a group of people start wandering in and I see a lady counting the seats and over hear her saying “we have 17 people, there’s only 13 seats”. Another lady from that same group a few moments later asked one of the staff if “those people” (meaning us) were leaving soon because they still had 3 people who needed to be seated..mind you we hadn’t even begun to eat yet. No sooner do we get our forks to our mouths does the waiter come over with a bowl of fried ice cream and a lit candle asking “whose birthday is it?” Then proceeds to hold the bowl with lit candle in front of my Aunt’s face (who is still eating her dinner) and is singing happy birthday to her. Minutes after that he comes over again asking if we want boxes when we were literally still eating!! I nicely said we’re still eating can you please stop rushing us?! He then walks away. Moral of the story is they obviously overbooked or seated people in the hibachi area that didn’t have a reservation and instead of them apologizing they made our experience very unpleasant by being extremely rude and rushing us from the minute they seated us. I used to enjoy this place but sadly I won’t be back due to this experience tonight along with the many trips to the bathroom that I’ve taken...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I just had the worst experience here. I've eaten here in the past and everything was fine but tonight was a different story. We called in advance to check if there was going to be a wait for 2 for hibachi, since it was a Saturday night and we assumed it might be busy. The guy on the phone told us no wait and that we would be seated immediately. So we said great and got there about 10 minutes after hanging up with him. Upon arriving we were not seated immediately as he previously stated. We had to wait a little over 20 minutes to be seated even though the hibachi area did not seem to be busy at all. This wait would have been fine and understandable if we weren't told previously that there would be no wait. Then once we were seated, we waited another 30-40 minutes until the chef finally came out to start preparing our food. A few minutes before the chef came over we approached the manager at the desk to find out what the hold up was since we were told there would be no wait and it didn't seem busy as we would have just went somewhere else to eat instead. He seemed uninterested in our concern and said no he'll be over to start cooking soon. This completely ruined the experience as hibachi is supposed to be fun. At the end of everything they didn't discount the check at all, which I wasnt expecting. However they could have at least apologized for the almost hour long wait since an apology is free and wouldn't have cost them anything. Won't...
Read moreFinally, a sit-down eatery in Center worth raving about! It's honestly dangerous having this place so close to us, as a family that loves Asian food! I was there for a party the week it opened, and we all had a great time. It was our one friend's introduction to Hibachi in fact, and what a start! Anyone who's been to a restaurant that offers Hibachi knows how fun it is, what makes Mikado stand out however is how beautifully cooked the food is. The tofu is perfect and crisp, the veggies tender and not undercooked, all while having a show!
Eating there Hibachi-free is great too. With such a broad menu, there's something for even picky eaters. The lighting is gorgeous, the wait staff is great, it's not too loud, and the wait time is fast. The best part is, whatever you get, you'll leave feeling full but not sick!
Of course, the takeout is wonderful as well. I myself also love the tofu teriyaki, it's well-cooked with silken tofu, and not too salty. My family and I adore the seaweed salad, and the show stealer, the sushi. The salmon, eel avocado and angry dragon rolls are adored by my family, I myself love the avocado peanut roll, creamy and crunchy with two well-balanced flavors, and the sweet potato, sometimes still warm and extra crispy!
Usually when a menu is as big as this, it's a terrible sign, but this is an exception to that rule. Mikado really is the best pan Asian...
