I've been a fan of Toss & Fire Wood-Fired Pizza for a long time. Visiting them at food truck rodeos, festivals and the NY State Fair. I've always have had a consistently well prepared and delicious pizza. They have two brick and mortar locations. The North Syracuse location is the original. They opened their second location at Township 5 in Camillus back in the fall of 2020. This review is of their Camillus location. I have been to this location numerous times and always order three wood fired pies on each visit. The wood fired pizzas come in 10 inch and 12 inch pies. For this visit the three wood fired pies all had a nice crisp crust. The Margherita had fresh mozzarella and the perfect flavor balance of basil and garlic. Tessa's Veggie had fresh vegetables such as tomato, broccoli and pecorino. You didn't miss a veggie in every slice. We also wanted to try a "novelty" type of wood fired pizza. We went with one that Toss & Fire created for the NY State Fair, the Bit of a Pickle. Garlic, Applewood bacon, Mozzarella, Cheddar, dill pickles and a ranch drizzle. Don't sell this pie short. All the flavors worked well together. I learned not to term some foods a "novelty" until I try it! Instead I will change the term to unique. They still have a couple more "unique" pies that I have not tried yet!
The chicken wings were ordered extra crispy with hot Buffalo sauce. An order comes with ten wings. They were nice sized wings and glad I ordered them extra crispy because when I got home they seemed like they had a normal crisp to them. Will not knock that since it was takeout and I'm sure if I ate at the restaurant they would of been as ordered.
The staff are always welcoming and able to answer any questions you may have while placing your order. Once you order they give you a vibrating beeper to let you know when your order is ready. If it's longer than 20 minutes I like to walk around Township 5 checking out the other shops. You can also order online from their website. Toss & Fire also has normal NY style pizza oven pies along with Detroit style pizza. I haven't tried their Detroit or NY styles yet and probably won't until I go down the line of their...
Read moreI have given this place MORE than enough chances. Ill start with the very first one. Ate inside before pandemic, found a hair in my salad. I know things happen and I let it slide. Now I eat here quite often. Because I'm on the keto diet, and want to support local business I don't want to go to Domino's, but ill tell you they have never messed my order up. Ordered 2 pizzas, 1 gluten free, 1 regular. Was made both gluten free. Had to drive back to get the correct one, and I handed them the wrong one to prove it was wrong. Next time I ordered, I ordered regular garlic parm wings with gluten free pizza, the wings were boneless buffalo flavor. Had to throw them out because I can't eat them. Next order I ordered another pizza and the cheese was sliding off on to the box. How is that even possible, which I can see if it was delivery. Had them remake it, waited as my wings got cold. was wrong yet again. Was a 4 lover cheese when I didn't order that in the first place. Remade again, was under cooked but they were probably rushing. I appreciate getting a refund, but I really just want management to step in and DO BETTER. I dont want a apology about my 4 bad experiences, and from the 6 I've been, 3 in a row is pretty bad to be...bad. I want to support my local business, but you make it really hard to do so. I don't want a free meal although I appreciate the refund. I just want a good experience. Not 4 bad ones in a row. I also shouldn't have to be paranoid to check my food every time I order. I place online orders and don't understand how it can be messed up when its just simply reading instructions. Also have to add from this experience tonight. I live 1 min down the road and from the time I left to pick up my food, it was 45 minutes until I got back home. I might get the response from the owner about coming back and giving another shot, but it's been 3 chances. I can't be the only one who is voicing their complaints and concerns. **So update. It seems as though they got their stuff together. Order has been correct everytime. Pizza crust was a little burnt for my liking but overall way...
Read moreBeen a long time customer, have always had a great dining experience until the recent menu change....I don't know who's bright idea it was to stop selling "large" 16" WOOD FIRED pizza to now only sell the small 10"&12" wood fired pizza....but still sell the their other pizzas in all the normal sizes. Your a WOOD FIRED pizza restaurant after all! I've never heard soo many people complain to the waitresses about the recent change! The excuse given was "to ensure quality of the pizza and consistency" well....we have been dining here for years and have never had any issue of quality with our LARGE wood fired pizzas so I call bs on that "reason". If your pizza maker is having trouble making consistent pizzas...sounds like a training or management issue. We dined Friday 11/22 had our usual waitress who was amazing as always, this change has made us wonder about coming back. The reason is the cost now....let's face it, it's expensive pizzas but it's not your average pizza and that's why we've always come back. Since a single 12" wood fired pizza won't be enough we have to buy 2 pizzas instead of our single large. Dinner with drinks, appetizer, wings and pizzas used to average $70....our recent visit with menu change cost us alittle over $100 and left with LESS left over than usual. This is a business move to increase sales that is pitched with "oh it will be better for your dining experience"...kinda like a politician making you feel good about a tax increase. This place has hired a new manager from the corporate world and it's showing. What will the impact be? Time will tell
On a side note, the waitstaff was blindsided by this change as well as your customers and they are the ones taking the backlash from us loyal customers, Not cool
My 1 star rating does not reflect the food or waitstaff but rather the recent menu change and based on the conversations heard from neighboring tables there was alot of unhappy patrons. I get it, business is business but hard to justify spending $100 on pizzas and wings for 2 people when I can go plenty of other good pizzas joints for...
