When you want a restaurant where you can depend on the quality of the food and the excellence of the service, this is the place to go in Syracuse. The ambiance is great, and I have never been disappointed in my meal. If you are hungry, start with an appetizer such as their delicious French onion soup. Then visit the salad bar (see update below) where you will find excellent self-carved dark and light bread and fresh greens. Add-ons include artichoke hearts, beets, chickpeas, onions, pepperoncini, croutons and crumbled bacon. A variety of dressings is offered. They start preparing your entree only when you visit the salad bar, so you have plenty of time to enjoy your salad. The steaks are excellent and arrive cooked to the degree you requested. Their baked potatoes are always perfect. They offer a variety of desserts, but I always order the raspberry cream which has been on the menu since the '70s. I'm as susceptible as anyone else to trying the new restaurants in town, but I always go back the Scotch & Sirloin. POST PANDEMIC UPDATE: Unfortunately, the menu is much more limited than it was pre-pandemic. They no longer offer the top sirloin or the raspberry cream. The most regrettable loss is the salad bar. This is understandable in view covid, but instead of including a side salad with entrees, you now have to pay $10 or more for a salad, dispite the fact that the prices of entrees have been increased. The service and ambiance are still excellent, but we may not be dining at this restaurant as often as we have in the past. UPDATE-2: When my daughter returns to Syracuse, the first place she wants to go is this restaurant. It not only has great food but also great nostalgic value. UPDATE-3: The acorn squash is not what it used to be. I'd skip it. UPDATE-4: As is our custom, we went here for an early dinner on New Year's Eve with close friends. The service was not up to its normal standards. My friend ordered a glass of the house white wine. The waiter brought a glass of the house red. After the food was served, no one returned to our table to see if everything was okay. Unfortunately, everything was not okay. One of the dishes delivered was room-temp risotto with room-temp nearly-raw scallops. The recipient decided she would take the meal home and cook it as leftovers. Consequently, she spent the meal watching the rest of us eat. Halfway through my meal, I was able to catch the attention of our waiter and ask him to bring the ketchup and A1 sauce I had requested when I ordered. Obviously, this is not normal for this restaurant and may have been due to understaffing on a night when every table was taken.

Very disappointed in our food and quality of meat. I acknowledge we arrived late to our reservation. But the chef clearly sent us a message. We asked if it was too late to be seated (8:15) I would have preferred to have been told no then receive the quality of food served. Ordered 2 NY strips, medium rare. Served blue, one of them very tough with lots of gristle. We debated sending them back because I hate to be that kind of customer but they were too blue. Still on the cusp of rare upon returned from the grill. Wife had me finish cooking hers at home. I called the following day to mention this feedback and overall the owners responce took no value in the feedback and largely ignored the feedback due to “we are an old school steakhouse.” Not my first steakhouse, sir…. He offered a gift certificate - but was not seeking compensation. I refused as there is no need to revisit this establishment- a vestige of a steakhouse that once carried a name. Many other note worthy steakhouse around town. That being said waitstaff, bartender, and atmosphere is on point, but not worth $200 for two for a tough steak and cold potatoes. Picture is steak after being sent back.

High end steak house with a somewhat limited menu. We sat inside in the dining room, but they offered outdoor seating along with a lounge option. Very extensive liquor menu. Although we were there to celebrate Lisa's birthday, neither of us sampled the liquor. When I made the reservation the gentleman asked if we were celebrating anything, and I told him. The picture on this review is of the lovely dessert they brought us. It looks like a flower. It was vanilla and mint chocolate chip ice creams with whipped cream, and delicious. We both had beef options - the sirloin for me, and the filet for her. Both were perfectly cooked and drained just right. Lisa reports that the mashed potatoes that accompanied her dish were the best she's ever had, and I had to agree. I chose the steak fries, which were wedges, and also fantastic. To start we had the French onion soup, also delicious - not too salty with just the right amount of onions. In a romantic twist, we went there 19 years ago for our first date. Highly recommend. Dinner for two, with soup but no drinks was a little more than $100, but worth every penny.

It’s a beautiful restaurant with a cool ambiance and they give a free dessert for your birthday. However, we waited over an hour for our food and when it arrived it was cold and over salted. After driving over an hour to try it we were incredibly disappointed. My friend and I both ordered the prime rib open faced sandwich and it was a good portion just way too much salt. I got instant heartburn. Ordered the lemon drop martini and all I tasted was vodka. All of the drinks were strong and none of us ladies were able to drink them. We asked our waiter if we could split the bill on a table of 10. He said no problem. He came back to the table 3 different times with checks and each time they were wrong. The first 2 he didn’t even hand me a check. I explained to the waiter what I ordered and he came back with just my drink and not my meal on the bill. I brought this to his attention and he said oh it’s ok it’s on your friends bill. We were tired of the back and forth and honestly felt bad because he kept running back and forth. I paid my friend my portion of the meal because the waiter said she was charged for it. We all paid for our meal and went to walk out of the door. One of the servers comes running after us saying “You can’t leave there are still 2 bills unpaid”. They tried to charge one of the ladies cards that had already paid for her meal without her consent and then asked us to pay for stuff that was already paid for on my friends bill. So essentially we double paid for 2 of our meals. I spoke with the manager who was not understanding our frustration and did not do anything to help the situation. Beyond disappointed is an understatement. I told the manager if they can’t split the bill for a larger party they should have said that and also told him we were not satisfied with some of the meals and all of the drinks. We will never be back here. Already paid for our meal and were essentially held hostage until we double paid because the waiter messed up and couldn’t figure out how to split the check and they over charged us, then they refused to take accountability and responsibility. Also if you are dining with minors make sure to remind your server to check ID’s as none of the ladies at the table were asked to show ID. I am not one to give bad reviews but this was a...

We just went here for a birthday dinner and were sorely disappointed. The bar and drinks were good, leaving us looking forward to a good meal. The service took quite some time with at least 15 to 20 minutes just to get the drink order placed. The team of waiters finally took our order after a substantial wait and spirits were still good because of the company. Of the 4 pieces of red meat ordered, one end cut of prime rib, 2 filets, and one ribeye...the end cut had no visible or perceived seasoning, and the two filets and ribeye were cooked to medium to medium well vs. the medium rare ordered. Of those orders, two baked potatoes were ordered. I specifically stated no sour cream as I cannot have it. Another member of the party gave her order as well as far as the baked potato goes. The dinners finally came out and, as said before, the met was overdone, the female never got her baked potato, and my potato was not as ordered ((had sour cream, which I asked to be excluded, 3 visible chives, no cheese(which I did ask for) and no butter.) The female asked where her potato was and the writer's response was, "I forgot to put it in and now we are all out, I will look into it." We never saw him revisit our table again. I spoke with the host and discussed the issues that we were having. He acknowledged that we were there for a special occasion and said that he would look into it. I stated that I was not looking for a discount, but was only stating my disappointment of the meal/service. I did not see our server or the host again. While we were leaving and in the parking lot, was approached by other diners from the night that said they had similar experience and were happy that I was actually talking to the host about the service and the food. I/we will never back. Only saving grace was the bartender. To top it all off, the chef made his rounds after I spoke with the host, but would not speak to our table. (Not Karens-just looking for...
