Izumi — Restaurant in Town of East Fishkill

I made a reservation for my daughter’s birthday party after speaking to the manager about what we were looking for and pricing. It was decided that my daughter and her friends would get the kids hibachi meal of chicken or steak or the kids could share an adult meal. I made it clear the all of the girls attending were 13; age was not a problem when I made the reservation. On the night of the party the restaurant was packed and they refused to seat us until everyone was present. However, they kept getting mad at my daughter and her friends for being in the way. I finally insisted that we be sat so we could be out of the way and start with drinks. Once we sat it took over 30 minutes for our drink order to be taken. I actually had to go find someone as we were being completely ignored. Finally, drinks were served and each girl was asked if they wanted the chicken or steak meal. The food was good as always, all of the girls pretty much ate all of their food. I ordered the adult meal and had a ton left over; always enough for two meals. Once the bill comes I realize they charged us for all adult meals. I spoke to the manager (whom I had made the reservation with) and explained that it was wrong. She insisted that all of the girls were too old for the children’s meals and were given the adult meal. I explained again that was not what was decided when the reservation was made and the portions did not seem like the adult portion. She refused to listen and refused to adjust the check. She then completely ignored me for the rest of the time we were there even tough I made it clear I still wanted to speak with her. Went out to dinner here and we will never be returning. Everything felt rushed, we walked in the door and instead of a hostess seating us we were told to sit anywhere. We picked a booth to sit at and the waiter then came over and asked us to move seats. I ordered steak Hibachi and my girlfriend ordered steak and shrimp. The waiter never asked how we wanted our steak cooked when he took the order. The food came out and both of our steaks were hardly cooked. We politely asked they cook it further until it was medium well. They took both our plates to the back for a total of 3 minutes and brought our same plates with our half eaten food on it back out to us with what appeared to be just more sauce, the meat was still just as raw and wasn’t even warm to the touch. We complained again and the manager came over. She then sat there and told us it was our fault the meat was undercooked because we didn’t tell the waiter we wanted it medium well. Which on our original plate I could agree on, but when we complained we wanted it cooked further and you brought the plates out both with visibly undercooked meat that is no longer our fault for not saying anything. Let me just start this review by saying the 3 star review has nothing to do with the food. Had I ordered for take out, I probably would have given Izumi 5 stars. We ordered steak and shrimp, and kids steak meals, was asked if we wanted noodles with our order and we all said yes. The chef came and cooked our meal, the chef put on a good show and the food was great. Steaks and shrimps were soft and perfectly cooked, the rice was flavorful, the vegetables were good, as were the noodles. After the meal, we receive the bill and found out each of us who got noodles were charged 5 dollars per meal for noodles. Not a big deal, but wasn’t communicated to us at all. I then give; who I believe was the owner, my credit card to pay for the meal and she took it upon herself to add a $39.99 tip. The tip was a justifiable amount for the bill however, I did not appreciate them adding a tip to my bill without saying anything. If gratuity is included with the bill, that’s completely different, however, she just decided upon herself to tip this amount and add it to my card.
