False exclusivity & nightclub level security for an empty restaurant.
Food is okay so that accounts for the stars, but as a longtime resident, they are attempting to do with Gosmans what they did with Ruschmeyers, Surf Lodge, & Bounce. 7pm on a weekend & they were completely empty - not because of the food but because of the false exclusivity.
I had checked reservations available and there were none from 6-8pm, but between that time when we were there, they were barely 1/3 full. The fish is severely overpriced albeit well prepared. The drinks follow suit.
The thing that most annoys me, however, is that they no longer allow people to walk along the dock that surrounds the restaurant. For literally DECADES I have parked for sunset, walked in for a drink & apps, walked around to topside or ice cream & walked back to my car. Now you have to confirm you’re a patron or have a reservation to even get from the north lot to the rest of the docks.
They have THREE security guards for the place that once again - was 70% empty. Please for all that is good in Montauk, let this place fail as it has been. We do not need another one of these overpriced, falsely exclusive, money sucking hell holes in what used to be a beautiful...
Read moreThey keep removing my reviews so i will keep this short and sweet. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I have dined at other bagatelle locations and this is a smear on the brand. All they did was hang a bagatelle sign at gosmans and 10x the cost of food. The service is absolutely awful, one of the waiters was squaring up with our guests, cursed out another guest, took over AN HOUR to get our first drink and half of them werent correct. They slapped food on the table in the wrong spots half the food was cold or wrong. they gave me the wrong cut of steak and it was beyond rare to the point where it looked like they seared it for a minute on each side and served. When i told them its the wrong cut and raw the server got visibly mad, nasty and rude and grabbed it off the table aggressively and brought the same steak back out burnt and well done rather than giving me the steak i ordered. We had a group of almost 15 people and it was a DISTURBING experience. They have someone on the light switch flickering the lights during weird dj drops. The whole experience was bizzare and was so bad we were convinced it was some kind of prank show. I love eating good and nice restaurants and this was literally one of the worst dining experiences...
Read moreThis was our first time back since the Gosman’s takeover—and after 20 years of making it a tradition, we were understandably hesitant about the change. French cuisine? A new vibe? We weren’t sure what to expect.
But wow—Bagatelle truly impressed us. The service was outstanding: attentive, polite, and professional without ever feeling rushed. From the moment we sat down, we felt welcomed and well taken care of.
We started with the grilled rock octopus, which was cooked to perfection. My son had the steak and fries—spot on—and my wife enjoyed the scallops. I went with the lobster, which has always been the centerpiece of our trips to Gosman’s. I was worried it wouldn’t live up to tradition, but it absolutely did. Rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
Dessert was a highlight: coffee ice cream, vanilla cake, and beignets for me. Each one was delicious and artfully plated.
Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side, but the elevated atmosphere and exceptional service make it worth every penny. It’s not a place we’ll dine at every night, but it’s definitely earned a spot on our must-visit list whenever we’re in Montauk.
See you next year, Bagatelle. You’ve...
