Reported HAIR in the chili, was told "it happens." A bad experience from the start. Four of us came in at 1:15pm for lunch. Guests at three other tables (wait staff wasn't over-taxed). Drink order - 3 coffees.(2black, one with milk) She didn't ask if the fourth person wanted water. Do not assume patrons will get water with a meal. Waitress set one coffee on the ring binding of a menu, coffee spilled all over. No apologies, we all hurriedly sopped it up with napkins. She refilled the spilled cup and brought more napkins. Took orders and one of us - our lightened coffee drinker - asked for some cream. Waitress pointed to the milk. He said he liked milk AND cream. She gave him a stink eye, went off mumbling. She stopped at another table of customers, two places removed from us, and I heard her say "Oh, I get it. Cream for a fourth cup of coffee. A fourth cup." I told the friend I thought an extra cup was headed our way and we all agreed he had been clear that the cream was to go in the coffee he was drinking already. Meanwhile, a member of the wait staff came around and warmed our coffees, bringing them to the brim. Five minutes later waitress comes with a cup of black coffee and a bowl of little creamers. Friend says, I only asked for cream, not another coffee. She said, "He (pointing to one of us) can use this as a refill." Friend clarified - at no extra charge, because we only ordered three. Waitress: " No charge. " Food begins to arrive and she sets a bowl of soup in front of me. I ordered chili. Waitress says "I heard Chicken Soup. I wrote down Chicken Soup." No apology just argument. WE all tell her, I ordered chili. She took it back. Friend's order of hash browns, scrambled eggs and a side of sausage arrives sans sausage. Where is the side of sausage, he asks? She stares at him. "I ordered a side of sausage." Waitress replies, "It's coming" By the time it is served, it's obvious that the order was placed after the omission was brought to her attention. No apologies, no acknowledgement of her error. Finally, chili arrives. It's a nice big serving in a nice white bowl. Finally, we all have the food ordered, although one of us has nothing to drink. Waitress doesn't ask if we want anything, she disappears. The room now has only 3 occupied tables. Time for a break? I've not yet dipped in when one of the others at our table says to me, "There's a hair in your chili." Oh, yes, indeed. A curl of black human hair is pasted to the white bowl right at the level of the chili. Half in the food, half on display black on white. Gross. Where is the waitress? I take a picture, thought I might have to go find her and show it to her. I'm ready. Friend spies another member of wait staff and calls her over. I show the chili and tell her there's a hair. She says she can't see it. Says her eyes aren't good. I pull out my phone and offer to enlarge the photo. She says she doesn't need to see it, grabs the bowl and walks toward the kitchen saying I'll get another. I call to her, "I don't want another bowl of chili." She stops, and keeps her back to me, looking over her shoulder. I continue, "Just bring me a grilled cheese and tomato on wheat." She leaves. Original waitress appears after a while bringing my sandwich. No apologies, but she said she didn't notice the HAIR. Apparently that sounded acceptable to her. It's not. The dark haired woman who we flagged down and who took the hair-and-chili dish away, returned to our table to say "Your waitress is blonde. It wasn't her hair. And all the kitchen staff wear hairnets. So it wasn't their fault. It happens. " Then she walks away. What was THAT? Not a good explanation. Not an apology. Lastly, we ask for water for our coffee-less friend half way through a meal with nothing to drink. Stink eye again. When the bill comes, everything is listed including the fourth cup of coffee. One more push back from the waitress before she adjusts it to remove the not-ordered item. No wonder they have so few customers. And now, four less people...
Read moreI went here today as a lunch stop during my trip home. When we walked in, the large diner had really nice decorations and we were seated immediately at the counter. After a minute of settling into our seats, the nice waiter came over and said "sorry for the wait," which surprised me very much because we hadn't even been there for that long. After we ordered our drinks, my sister and I went to the bathroom which was also pretty classy. Some restaurants are nice, but don't pay too much attention to the quality of their restrooms, unlike this diner. They were clean and just the right size. For lunch, I ordered fish and chips which also came with a side salad. The kind waiter gave me my salad which was delishious and very nicely put together. Once my fish came out, I was awed by the presentation and taste of the dish. If you were to see what I had ordered on Pinterest, you would most likely assume that I had ordered it at an expensive restaurant on the beach. However, instead of being overly expensive, it was a reasonable price and extremely well made. The fish and fries were definetly home made and not heated out of the package because they had grease as if they had just been fried, but they were not so greasy like a cheap pizza. Along with the wonderful food comes the nice waiter that served us. Overall, I highly recommend this diner for their wonderful service, impeccable food,...
Read moreI ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad and an order of Chicken Tenders which came to an expensive $27 dollars. I brought it home and proceeded to take the order out of the bag. The entire bag was greasy and filled with oil. My mother and I inspected the salad, only to find that it was made with wilted lettuce, a couple pieces of chicken, and a bunch of oil. The oil was so potent that it soaked the chicken tenders order. I called the 84 Diner hoping to rectify the situation. The lady there proposed to me that she had put Caesar dressing on the salad, but it is not what we received and I remained firm in my position. The lady said that she would get me a manager. This is the part where I got incredibly mad, because the owner and manger came on the phone...said my phone was breaking up and to call him back (keep in mind that no one else who I had spoken with had any problem hearing me and I have a brand new iPhone 7 that was currently connected to WiFi in my house). I proceeded to call back, he picked up the phone, IMMEDIATELY said that he couldn't hear me and hung up. Repeat of this 3x, before I finally got so fed up, I refuse to come here again, because CLEARLY this location cares more about the money they make, than answering for its mistakes or to its upset customers. I'll give them a tip since I am too, in the food business, ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE HAPPY--WITHOUT THEM YOU...
