The Getaway on Lake Como — Restaurant in Town of Geneva

We went to The Getaway on Lake Como in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin last night (2/19) and had a disappointing experience.

I did share this with the restaurant directly and they have not responded (but did read the message) and have not done anything to try and rectify the situation. Even a small gesture like a dessert and acknowledgment of the situation would have turned the evening around.

We had reservations at 6:30. We arrived at 6:05 and asked if we could have a drink at the bar while we waited since we were early. The hostess was incredibly kind and directed us to the small tables by the bar. We were approached after a short wait asking if we needed a food menu. We explained that we just wanted to have a drink while we waited for our reservations and were provided a drink menu. However, no one came back to take our order for drinks. We assumed there was a miss communication and let it go.

At 6:20 we just went back to the hostess to see if our table was ready. She did seat us at that point.

After another short wait our server came and took our drink and appetizer order. Drinks came pretty timely as did the appetizers and the appetizers were good, but unfortunately at this point the rest of the evening was not a good experience.

We had finished our appetizers by the time our server came back to take our dinner order. We ordered Tuna and Prime Rib (medium rare).

After an hour of waiting I got the attention of an individual who was clearing plates and bringing waters and asked her if someone could check on our order and provide us with an explanation for the delay because 2 tables around us who were sat after us had their entrees already and were almost done.

This individual said she would find out what was happening. She went in the kitchen and it appeared she notified a gentleman who I assume is either the manager or owner and we noted he went looking for the server but he never came to talk with us or check to see if things were resolved.

We over heard from another server that perhaps our food had been erroneously taken to another table.

After about 10 minutes from that point we did have plates in front of us but the prime rib was medium well (hardly any pink) and the risotto sides were over cooked and gummy.

At this point it was almost 8:00 and we did not want to wait for a correction nor did the server ask how everything was to offer a correction. She did say she wished she could “make it better” and if there was something she could do she wished she could.

We had an entire night away planned the centered around coming to establishment.

We were very disappointed that the experience and food was not at all as we expected.

To make it worse no one from management even offered an explanation or anything.

We paid over $100 for lackluster and improperly cooked food and spent 2.5 hours of our night feeling ignored. I gave 2 stars because the drinks were good and the appetizers came quickly and tastes good (honey and ricotta &...

The getaway on lake Como is located at French country Inn hotel in lake Geneva Wisconsin.

What an absolutely fantastic place to eat breakfast lunch and dinner.

We had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful hotel on the water and we're here during restaurant week in lake Geneva so we got to try specialty items available on the menu.

We ended up eating at this restaurant almost every day because the prices were good and the food was excellent.

The wait staff is very kind and attentive and they have a good rhythm for keeping busy tables moving smoothly.

On Monday night there was an awesome band covering all genres of pop music rock country and classics.

The restaurant features a full bar with lots of room for guests to sit together.

We had some of the best prime rib for dinner and I absolutely loved the chicken marsala.

The portions are generous and the attention to detail when plating is very very good.

Recommend you do make a reservation when planning to eat dinner especially Friday and Saturday nights.

While we were staying at the hotel, we had an intimate and sumptuous breakfast, with locally sourced sausage and bacon. Chef Michael personally brought out our breakfast and made sure that everything was to our liking. The blueberry pancakes were to die for and the bacon was honestly the best ever.

We've stayed at the hotel for a week and have honestly eating at the restaurant at least six times and had dinner at the restaurant three times and counting.

The Getaway on Lake Como is attached to the French Country Inn on the Lake in Lake Geneva, WI. All I can say is WOW! We had both dinner on Friday night and breakfast on Saturday morning while we stayed in the Inn.

Let's start off with the atmosphere. The Getaway is elegant with a French farmhouse feel. There is a large fireplace at the entrance when you enter from the lobby.

We did have reservations and I would recommend reservations for dinner on a weekend. We were seated quickly and the wait staff was right there to take our drink order and tell us about the specials.

To add to the ambiance, there was a live guitarist that was very talented playing soft jazz versions of many popular songs. He even played some Led Zeppelin. However, his music was soft and not interfering with our conversation even though we were just a few feet from where he was playing.

We ordered and the food came quickly and was excellent. The service was outstanding and the views of the lake incredible.

The next morning we ate breakfast. We ordered coffee, tea and 3 biscuits with various butters and honey. Well these were not your mother’s biscuits. They were huge and tasted light and flaky. We also ordered eggs, sausage and pancakes. Again the service was excellent and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend the Getaway when you are in the Lake...
