So while my Father "Pappy" was here Visiting, We were looking for some place to grab a bite to eat. I had heard about this New Place in Greenville NY, (My New Home Town) called "The Tasting Lab" The place has a very cool American Classic vibe to it, It reminds me of a place called "Munchies" in Brockport NY I used to Love to eat at in the late 80s. The Tasting Lab is owned by the same people who own "Hop Barn Brewing" a local Micro brewery in Greenville and the place has a Large selection of Microbrews from their Brewery and other NY Microbreweries. We had a Brew called "Cherry Crush" that was brewed in the Bronx and it is a new Favorite of mine. Those who know me know I am a Cheeseburger Guy and being my First time there I figured a Cheeseburger was the way to go and Pappy agreed . I got a standard American Cheese Beef Burger and Pappy picked the Elk Burger with Cheddar cheese and we split an order of really good French fries. The prices for the Burgers were about $10 each which these days seems to be the standard price for a good Burger. Now I have tried Burgers all over and while this was not the all time Greatest Burger I have ever had in my life, for a Place about 3 Miles from my house it was really an Awesome Burger! Just knowing that near by at almost anytime I can get a Great Burger makes my life that much better. While the Burger was great and the place very Cool, The highlight of the trip was meeting our waitress Emileigh, Now I have met many people in my day and I can usually sense Greatness/Future Greatness and her aura just has a very bright shine to it, As We talked with her we found out she is also a Local up and coming singer in the area. I looked into the Greenville NY area before buying a house here. The town reminds me of 1955 Hill Valley from the movie "Back to the Future" . I also found many things about the town that made me decide on it as the place to spend the rest of my life. "The Tasting Lab" is one more place that makes this town a great place to Live and a place I know all my friends and family will continue to Love to come and...
Read moreIf this is a hidden gem of the eastern Catskills, then this would be the diamond. Nestled in the Hamlet of Greenville NY, this venue far exceeded expectations. Recently, my son and I have been venturing he Northeast tasting and rating breweries, distilleries, wineries, and accompanying food. I'm a foodie and love my wines. My son has a whiskey collection that is impressive even for the most ample abled purchasers. Together we taste and rate beers.
As a close locale for us, we decide to go to The Tasting Lab. We forgot our rating sheets this night but leveraged napkins for our flight samples to take notes on.
A hidden offering not on the menu was suggested by a customer as a Bloody Mary. He was intrigued my my son's and my rating of the beers and asked if we would give our opinion on it, scale 1-10. Bar none, BEST Bloody Mary ever!! Refreshing, zesty, light yet impactful. You MUST GET THIS or the mixes. The mix was/is compiled by a regional chef who cooks and prepares from his heart. Some of the proceeds will go to education as his mission.
Caitlin (sorry if I spelled name wrong), was extremely knowledgeable about the food and beverage offerings. She was a delight in every sense of the word and very attentive.
The food is the BOMB (do they still use that term?). It slaps!! We ordered pretzels (primo!), The Scottish eggs (can't get these anywhere else that I know of and a must try) and a dozen wings with maple bacon bourbon sauce. Best wing sauce I've ever had too!!!
My son had a bison burger with beer cheese and fixings. Too good for words. This venue offers all their products locally or at least from NYS and they have done a bang up job of offering the very best in an atmosphere that is comfortable, welcoming and perfectly fit for their perfect niche. Highly recommend. Can't wait until we return, which is likely to be regular herein.
And thank...
Read moreI've been going to the Tasting Lab almost every week for a year, and while it's a bit of a trip from the Albany area, it's worth it every time.
It's not often an owner of a restaurant knows their way around the kitchen/grill as well as Madyson does. Some people don't know their genius and she is truly a humble but prodigious culinary genius. Whether it comes the cooking things to perfection, or coming up with a banging sauce, like the one for those Mutt Burgers or the Dirt Chicken wings that just surprises the hell out of you cause it's not something that you've had anywhere and yet at the same time you wonder why you haven't tasted it before, because it just makes sense to your taste buds lol.
Aside from the food, they have consistently GREAT live music. Both co-owners have experience in live music, and doing sound for major venues in the Capital Region. With that, they curate some of the best bands locally and even nationally, and (as someone who also has experience in live sound) they have top of the line sound equipment, so you're getting a venue-level listening experience every time you eat there. Pop in there Thursday-Sunday, and you'll most likely hear some great music.
The only thing I don't like is that more people don't know this place exists! It's really worth the trip, and it's especially perfect for a bite after a long hike in the Catskills, or a sunset walk down in the back of the town park with a view of the mountains. Definitely make it a part of your day if you get the...
