I’ve been taking out food from the King’s Wok for over ten years and for the most part the food has always been good. Recently my daughter came up from Brooklyn for a short visit and when dinner time came around she suggested Chinese food. We looked at each other and almost yelled out the Wok. My mouth began watering in anticipation as I haven’t been able to get there for awhile. Medical problems have forced me into a power wheelchair and because they don’t deliver I’ve been unable to get there. My daughter returned with two plastic bags filled to the rim with some of our favorite dishes. We quickly had the food on plates and we sat down to what we thought was going to be a great dinner. Unfortunately we were quickly disappointed. The Wok’s egg rolls have always been my favorite out of their extensive menu. Imagine my surprise when after removing them from the waxed bags I discovered them to be about half the size I remembered them to be. I thought my daughter must have ordered spring rolls by mistake. Because she footed the bill I was politely just going to eat them with not mentioning my disappointment. The second surprise was when I bit into them. The once overstuffed roll was not only smaller but pretty tasteless. Just before mentioning my dissatisfaction with the egg rolls she told me how disappointed she was as well. She said that there was an oily taste and after the first bite spit it out. Being hungry I finished the first one but put the second one aside. I’m sorry to say the rest of the food wasn’t any better. My Pork with garlic was tasteless and the small bits of meat were overdone and chewy. My daughters chicken dish was definitely spicy but it overtook the flavor of everything else in the dish. The biggest disappointment was the fried rice. We both love their fried rise because it isn’t drenched in soy sauce and the pork pieces are so pink and great flavored. Once again the food was tasteless and the small pink pork pieces replaced with pieces of I don’t know what. The rest of the food we ordered was also pretty bad but I’m not going over that as I think you understand what I’ve been saying. I told my daughter to return the uneaten remains but she’s kind of a timid person and avoids conflict when possible. I’m really keeping my fingers crossed that the kitchen staff that night was inexperienced.
I haven’t given up on the King’s Wok. As I said, I’ve been taking food out of this restaurant for over ten years and this was the first time I was disappointed. I hope someone at the Wok reads this and looks into...
Read moreKing's Wok, Hamilton Square, Guilderland, has lost me as a customer for good. The quality of all the food has hit rock bottom. The last four items I purchased there have been consistently poor. I had noticed the color and taste of the soup broth was distinctly off. It just hasn't tasted right the last 3 times I bought it. Now I know why. I actually saw the staff person spoon broth out of my take out container and replace it with clear hot water. With the price increases, that is just outrageous. I pay for soup, not hot water. Also, any selection with vegetables is now 95-99% cooked onions, a cheap vegetable. Gone are the water chestnuts, most of the celery, and other components that added flavor, color, and taste appeal. Everything is oversalted now to apparently make up for the lack of flavor because of missing ingredients. The chow mein is not worth buying. Neither is the fried rice, the egg rolls, the mei fun, or the lo mein. I can boil onions myself. Open a can of LaChoy vegetables and you'll get a better selection. And everybody can cook rice. It is very disappointing, and I won't spend any more money...
Read moreHave been going to this place for over 22 yrs now! When I first moved to guilderland as a kid, till now living all the way out in Clifton Park. I will say the competition has gotten stronger sense moving, however I will still drive 25 min out of my way and pass a multitude of other Chinese spots to come here. Owners / staff very friendly, orders are fresh and always on time. To anyone reading this, I highly recommend to stop at the Wok and give them a try. Chicken with broccoli in garlic sauce is one of my favorite go to’s - jus throwin...
