Friends And Pho — Restaurant in Town of Hamilton

Tried Friends & Pho for the first time tonight. Can you say … WOW!! Everything was great & plentiful. No lack of meat on my Banh Mi (but more onions next time please!) & my husband took one taste of if Pho Special noodle soup & I had to restrain him from trying to drink it without chewing. He said it is the best he’s had in CNY so far. Egg rolls were crunchy on outside & tender on inside but could’ve been a tad warmer … but I’m not complaining, just suggesting.

This place was underwhelming. I ordered the pho (beef noodle soup), and it came with just noodles, a few slices of beef and maybe 2 meatballs, broth and a slice of lime. It doesn’t come with basil leaves or bean sprouts! How do you call that authentic?! The noodles tasted like it came from a packet and was a bit hard. Broth was meh.

Also got the Vietnamese coffee, and it came in a plastic takeout container with a lid and straw. What kind of ghetto presentation is that? Put it in a cup, especially since I’m dining in. SMH. Too much condensed milk — made me want to go #3.

It’s pho modified for people who don’t know pho… painfully minimalistic without basil, bean sprouts etc etc etc. it literally just had broth, very few pieces of meat and scallions… apparently vegetables are hard to source but even spinach or broccoli would help. It took 1/2 hr to get the order which is a long wait not experienced at any other place. Also out of 3 items asked, 2 items were not available. Server is incredibly kind and it is good broth.
