IBATTER UP BAKERY LEVITTOWN -- CAN DO BETTER! My honey and I went to see what all the hype was about with this bakery and their Boston Creme Donuts and Jelly Donuts we have been reading great reviews on? We went there to buy one Boston Creme Donut and a Jelly Donut for each of us. We spent $75. everything looked so good! We both have never tasted better Boston Creme and Jelly Donuts ever, anywhere else, YES, they are that good! They sell for $2.50 each. We bought their Lemon Meringue Pie $18. it is excellent, the sweet meringue against the tang of the lemon filling was perfect. We bought Black and White cookies, $3.25 each, they are going to our grandchildren. We bought assorted Rugelach at $18.95 lb,. they were different than how my Honey makes them, she makes them using a lot of butter so hers has a real buttery taste, BU rugelachs were also excellent in a different way, they were crispy, light, and flavorful. We bought one of their Crumbed Apple Turnovers to share with each other, I thought by the looks of it, it would be heavy, I was wrong, they are so light, crispy and delicious! We also bought one of their Cheese Danish to share, it was just okay, we expected a better tasting cheese inside and more of it, again it was just okay. All in all, we were both very happy with everything we bought at Batter Up Bakery in Levittown, we will be back when we both lose some weight! Ha-Ha! My one and only complaint is, NOTHING IS PRICED! That's why I gave a 3 star rating instead of a 5 star rating! I read reviews months ago saying nothing is priced, I believing that was against the law, for a retail business in Nassau County to have their items for sale go un-priced, called and spoke to Nassau County Consumer Affairs, and asked if it's okay for a bakery to sell un-priced items? They told me ABSOLUTELY NOT, all items for sale must be priced either with a price on the item, or a sign nearby with prices on it for customers to see. I did not tell them which bakery I was talking about, there is a form to fill out if you want to make a complaint, I didn't file a complaint. Instead I sent an email to BU Bakery on 1/22/2024, asking why nothing was priced, saying it was against the law. They replied some items are priced and are working on a wall sign with prices? Yesterday 2/11/2024, we went there, still no signs, no prices listed anywhere except one small sign with a few things on it too small to even read and a PICK UP here sign, on top at the end of the counter. That is not good! Hopefully they will get that wall sign, if not they will be paying fines to Nassau County for not having prices posted. I hope they put up prices. We shall see...
Read moreWe had a whole dessert parade planned at the Mansion of Oyster Bay for our wedding, so we did not think the cake could top it. Batter Up Bakery was suggested to us by the Mansion and we reached out to schedule a meeting. We happened to arrive at the bakery much earlier than expected, driving from NJ, to LI, and the bakery was still so accommodating and let us begin our trial earlier than scheduled. We were given many samples and varieties to try. We told the baker that our real favorite flavors were chocolate chip for Zach and cookies and cream for Rob. A few minutes later we were delighted to see that they had whipped up a custom made filling based on both flavors and it was delicious. We decided to go with both fillings as layers and it was a hit. The cake not only looked beautiful, but tasted amazing. The bakery will work with you to fully customize your wedding cake look and taste. It is also important to note that this was a Jewish, LGBT wedding and the cake had to be kosher/ pareve and it still tasted great. As for the gay element, other bakeries we talked to immediately showed us rainbow cake insides as an obvious choice when they heard it was a gay wedding. While that may work for some couples, that wasn’t the style we were going for, we wanted a classic cake aesthetic. Batter Up Bakery only showed us classic options from the start and we felt so comfortable knowing they had our best interest at heart. We 100% recommend Batter Up Bakery for any occasion...
Read moreI’d heard that this bakery was voted Long Island’s best, so I was excited to give it a try. Before heading over, I called to ask if they had Boston cream and jelly donuts available, and was told they did. However, when we arrived just a few minutes later, we were informed that they were baking a batch. It took about 10 minutes.
The bakery itself is quite small with no seating, aside from a table for DoorDash pickups. I also noticed a tiny printout of the menu, which I missed at first, as I was expecting something more visible like a wall menu. Another thing that stood out was the lack of labels on the desserts, so it was a bit hard to know what everything was. There were also some pies (possibly meringue) on a shelf without any covers, which made me a little uncomfortable.
On the plus side, the donuts are generously sized and packed with filling. If you like your donuts oozing with filling, this is the place for you! However, I was a bit disappointed with the taste. The filling in both the Boston cream and the jelly donut didn’t quite hit the mark. The Boston cream filling had an odd flavor that I couldn’t quite place—maybe it was too "eggy," or something else, but it didn’t taste as expected. The jelly filling was similarly off, so much so that I couldn’t finish it and ended up scraping out the excess.
While they’ve earned the title of Long Island’s best, I’d say your...
