Big Joe's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

Big Joe's is a clean, friendly, family owned & run neighborhood pizzeria that isn't kidding when they use the word 'BIG'! From their giant slices, giant pies (regular size pies also available), giant Cannolis, to their giant menu, BIG is almost an understatement! You really have to spend some time to look at their menu (see pictures) to find all the hidden gems they offer that aren't really found at many (if any) other places. I travel from the next town over to visit them and my food is still steaming hot when I get home. I'm very picky with veal and meatballs and not only are both heros stuffed with meat, the meatballs are delicious and veal is extremely tender as it should be. The best part about the heros is they come in a hero made from pizza dough; they're soft, fluffy and fresh unlike bread that's been sitting around all day. Sauce is very good which is key as it is used on nearly everything at a pizzeria. Their prices are better than the chains (ie Mama Teresa's and Mario's) and I find their quality just as good, if not better. Some hidden gems include different crusts including pretzel crust, & garlic crust. They have stuffed pizzas, a lasagna pizza, garlic squares (as well as knots), their calzones can be baked or fried, tons of entrees and heros as well as a kids menu. I know I sound like I own the place, but I do not; nor do I know the owners, it's just very refreshing to find a place that tries to be unique when the thousands of pizzerias in NY all try to be exactly the same. This is my favorite pizza place nearby -- so much so that I will drive to pick up my order instead of ordering somewhere else that delivers to my address.

I recently placed an order for pick-up, as I usually do due to the aforementioned reason, and within minutes I received a phone call asking if I wanted my order delivered or picked-up. I replied stating that I selected "pick-up" as my address was listed as "out of delivery zone." The individual on the other end of the line asked for my address and offered to deliver my order! What incredible customer service to reach out to a customer and offer a service to make their experience more pleasurable -- probably the best customer service I've had in a long time!

I would give 10 🌟. You order dinner entree - you get a dinner entree! Their sauce is NOT a watered down tomato sauce! You see TOMATOES! You want pizza 🍕 but the regular 18" isn't big enough for you, big guys?! Then order the Jumbo!!! You read right. Just measure the doorway - to make sure it fits or you will have to bring it in on the diagonal! The Finale Dessert! Karen, I hope you will still have some left over for me - Jumbo Chocolate Canollis. OH MY GOD! Uh oh, sorry folks! Dinner will be here shortly. Gotta get ready.
