Glad that there's another arepa/cachapas restaurant on LI, along with the nearby ones. Although, I expected better quality food, especially with all the good reviews I've read here. Restaurant was clean, very quiet, and almost empty when I decided to stop by get some food to go. Service was ok. Loud music was playing and I had to yell out my order to the employee taking the order behind the counter. Another staff/employee was there cooking/prepping the food. Also, I don't understand how some Venezuelan arepas restaurants don't have a guasacaca sauce to serve with their food. Paid and waited for a while to get my order. The daily special of the crispy chicken and fries (with bacon, ham, and cheese) was very underwhelming. The crispy chicken was like those frozen processed chicken patties that was cooked and then sliced and served. The fries were overcooked, almost like it was stale fries that were recooked and served; It was very hard, flavorless, and mostly inedible. The shredded meat daily special was ok. Had the chicken, which was lacking flavor and a little dry. The black beans were good and it was served with a lot of white rice and a few pieces of fried plantain. Had the vegetarian arepa, not very filling and lacking flavor. The arepa itself was ok. Had the cachapa with cheese, which was very, very sweet...sweeter than it should be. It did have the correct texture and good griddled marks. I've had better arepas and cachapas at other restaurants on LI. Not sure if I'll try the other food here or the...
Read moreFirst time here. Ordered a pick up and headed over there since it's a good 15-20min drive from me. Ordered a couple random things on the menu.
Cachapa with Cheese had a nice sweet corn taste and was a decent size. The burger was fire, ordered the regular and it was loaded so next time I may order the other one that comes with even more toppings just to see. Also got the the pollo mechada (shredded chicken) in the plátano maduro (some places call them Yoyos) and the chicken was flavorful and moist. Also the Dominican in me had to order up their fries with Salami & Fried Cheese which were solid and the fries were the thin variety so they were still crispy by the time I got home.
When I arrived I was told a couple more minutes so I grabbed a seat at their high table with the bar stools and watched a concert they had playing on the TV (waited less then 10 minutes). Chill laid back vibe, it was only myself and 2 people who were sitting down & eating and although the dude at the front isn't a waiter he went out his way to bring some of their food to their table so props to him. Definitely give this place a try, I know I'm glad I don't have to go to Cachapas y Más in Brooklyn anymore unless I'm...
Read moreWe ordered a bunch of different things from the menu and everything was delicious. The tequeños were perfect (10/10). Shredded beef and shredded chicken arepas were great. The actual arepas were a bit tough, I don't know if its because I drove about 20 mins before I got to them or thats just how they usually are. Either way they were good and the filling was very well seasoned and really good (8/10). Also got the Dominican cachapa with fried salami and fried cheese was amazing! The sweetness of the cachapa with the saltiness of the cheese and salami, epic(9/10). The grilled steak tacucho was my favorite! The steak was tender and the flavor was great and very fresh(10/10). The cheese and potato empanada is a MUST TRY! (10/10). For dessert I got the Tres Leches which was my least favorite item because it was a completely different texture of cake than im used to but it wasnt terrible(7/10). Last, I got a bag of the Besito de Coco which was also very good. Its a type of cookie/cake made with shaved coconut inside. Texture is kinda dry but if you love coconut, you will enjoy this, it is also not super sweet or sugary(9/10). Overall experience was great and will definitely be...
