Cherry Valley Club, located in Garden City, New York, is a private 18-hole championship golf course with a storied past.
The club was established in 1916. The golf course's design lineage is quite rich, with initial work by Devereux Emmet and Walter J. Travis. It was known as Salisbury Links when Travis laid out the course in 1907 (revised by Emmet in 1916) before it became Cherry Valley Club.
Over the years, the course has seen significant modifications and renovations by other prominent architects. Robert Trent Jones Sr. lengthened the course in 1962, and more recently, Stephen Kay undertook work in 2012. Other sources mention involvement from Frank Duane in 1970 and a redesign of the entire course by Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva in the latter part of the 1970s. This blend of designers has contributed to its challenging layout, which is described as a heathland design with Emmet's bunkering and Travis's notorious putting surfaces.
