Very disapointing experience. This was my third visit to this establishment. The first two times were very enjoyable. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was just average but it was fresh, hot and served quickly. The general store area and the cheses are what brought me back yesterday. That and the quaint country store atmosphere with all the treats was the main draw. I live over an hour away and thought it would be a nice day trip to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ordered the meatloaf and the knish-wich with a side of fries and gravy. It took nearly a half an hour for our food to arrive after ordering. It wasn't busy at all. The knish-wich was cold and soggy. The fries, ordered well done, were also cold and the texture told me that they were pre-made and warmed up. They tasted old. The knish was also kind of a gray color inside. Yuck. Sent it back. The meatloaf was ok, wierd sweet flavor but edible enough. The mashed potatoes were gluey. This entree was also cold. I was a server in a very busy diner for over a decade so I may be more picky than the average customer but I have a deep understanding of all aspects of the business from the front end to the kitchen. The food was not fresh to begin with and then sat for at least 10 minutes before it was served and not under a heat lamp. I'm chalking it up to an off day. I may find my way here in the future if in the area to give it another chance but won't make a...
Read moreThe staff was very kind, and service was good, but the food was a big let down.
French onion soup didn’t have much depth of flavor, broth was thin and watery, and cheese was barely melted (most review photos show similar barely melted cheese). It was overall disappointing, especially with the barely cooked onions. French onion soup is supposed to be comfort food, with a nice toasty cheese top, and a beefy broth, and soft (with a sight crunch) caramelized onions. It wasn’t the worst I’ve ever had, but it’s a simple soup with basic preparation and nothing about it was right.
The Brie toast dish bread wasn’t toasted, the bread was cold and soft, and the cheese was barely melted. Knish tasted rubbery, and was also disappointing.
We didn’t want to impose and complain about literally everything we ordered so we just ate what we could and grabbed the check.
Managers, kitchen staff, and server team should all be working together to prevent things like this from even leaving the kitchen. Eyes on these details would’ve taken the experience from ho-hum to a place we would return. People are willing to wait for quality food, and I think the food was too rushed if they didn’t even toast the bread or the cheese on dishes where that is part of the appeal.
Maybe we just ordered the wrong items, but If you’re looking for a nice atmosphere with maybe fondue?, you might be in the...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of Last Chance Cheese for years, and it’s one of my absolute favorite spots. The staff is always welcoming, the atmosphere is wonderful, and most of the menu is consistently excellent.
That said, I wanted to share some feedback about a dish that used to be my go-to: the split pea soup. About two years ago, I noticed a change in the recipe. While I’ve tried to enjoy the new version, I’ve found it quite different from the one I fell in love with. The current recipe is much thinner, almost watery, and the texture of the chopped peas feels a bit off. The old recipe had a creamy, hearty consistency that was comforting and satisfying—exactly what one looks for in a great split pea soup.
I’ve since switched to the French onion soup, which is wonderful, but I can’t help but miss the original split pea soup. It was one of the reasons I first became such a fan of your restaurant.
I understand that recipes evolve, and I appreciate the effort to keep things fresh, but I’d love to see the old creamy split pea soup make a comeback—or at least have it as an occasional special. I know I’m not the only one who would be thrilled!
Thank you for considering this feedback, and for continuing to provide such a great dining experience overall.
