So if you dont know the back story this establishment is owned by the same family as Robke's. This may explain why there are no pasta dishes on the menu. I like pasta .. my wife likes steak and it was her birthday so Birdies we went!
My wifes Old Fashioned was good. The glass was occupied by a huge piece of ice. The drink may have been a light pour.
Sticky ribs were good. Fall off the bone and just enough spice. This lead us to believe dinner would be just as good. It was not.
My wifes skirt steak was cooked to medium as she order. It was tender BUT it was swimming in garlic ( heavy on the garlic ) oil. So much so that the oil was trapping the juice from the steak underneath! ( see the picture attached .. which looks nothing like the picture of the same dish taken by someone else. )
I ordered the filet. I wasnt going to pay $30 for a burger or $40 for a roast beef sandwich. Chicken and fish were also not an option for me. More then a quarter of my asparagus was burnt past being edible. If you have ever eaten a burnt piece of asparagus you know nothing short of a rusty trailer hitch will get that taste out of your mouth. The steak itself was cooked to a perfect medium and wasnt chewy. But the bordelaise was not a sauce at all. I think the attempt was a red wine compound butter but i believe it was an after thought. It never melted on the steak! I was left staring at this purple blob that resembled congealed vomit. Very unattractive. And now looking back there was no starch given on my plate! Look at the photo.
Truffle fries were ok. They are battered and the truffle oil used is salty. This will leave you thirsty and on the way home looking for Chapstick from dehydration.
Service was ok. We never really waited for food. But given the small anount of tables there really isnt a reason a table should wait. The restaurant is an old house so seating is limited. Because of the truffle fries i was left looking for anyone to refill my glass of water even with my empty glass sitting on the edge of the table. The universal sign for MORE WATER PLEASE.
The real turn off for my wife was the linen napkins. Their napkin service provided Birdie with lint ridden clothes. My poor wifes black sweater looked like a hobos worn and tattered shirt when leaving. She was embarrassed to walk out of the restaurant.
Ive checked and there is a restaurant less then a mile in the opposite direction of Robkes that offers the same menu and more for the same or less in price. You would be better off...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent to birdie bar from a review on Long Island Restaurants on FB. Got there at 4:10 Saturday afternoon. Sat at the bar. Place is kaos. There were 8 people behind the bar no joke. Seemed like a party was going on upstairs but no-one really asked us for a drink. Then a bartender came up and got us a drink a real nice kid. We ordered the sticky ribs. I am not sure I ever ate sticky ribs but these bad boys were absolutely amazing. We then had a famous french dip. No lie the famous part needs to be removed or salt and pepper needs to be added to the sandwich I added S&P on second half of sandwich and flavor was much better. For 32 bucks the meat is definitely light for that price. Friend had the skirt steak I am not a fan of skirt but wife enjoyed but jimichanga sauce was way too salty and thick to layer it on the top of the steak. 15 bucks a drink 2 each 60 and next thing you know we are at 160 plus a 35 dollar tip. 2 Bills for 4 drinks actually 2 beers 2 drinks 1 app 2 meals. I dont mind paying for a great meal but not sure this is worth the 2 Bills. But with that said I will be back for sticky ribs and try another app. Place is so loud again we were at the bar. Water glasses had a smell to them its the water happens at my sisters house who lives nearby. Go and try the sticky ribs amazing. Everything else is a crap shoot as far as I am concerned.last thing for a place that charges so much the french fries are bot up to par. They should have fresh home made fries not...

They have that vibe going, it was packed. We waited 40 minutes for a table, no reservations. I had one of the most amazing Smokey Old Fashioned I've ever had, top notch bartender. And that's where the fun stopped. For some reason one of the bartenders was our waiter at our table. We never were read the specials or had gotten bread. When asked about bread, he said he told us but we refused??? Whatever, I said bring it now and I must have not heard you. He said fine. (We never got the bread) We knew there were specials only because the very same waiter was waiting on a very important table next to us and they had the ultimate service. Not sure who they were but the way they were treated, the were very special. We didn't get the same treatment. We actually rarely even saw or got to speak to our waiter. A bug flew in my girlfriend's wine and she ended up drinking it anyway after I fished him out because he literally never came back over. We skipped dessert for my birthday and left to have it somewhere else down the road. A bad experience and unfortunately, since my girlfriend was paying, a very small tip to show the dissatisfaction. The food was amazing and I wanted to love it. I just had a bad taste. Maybe you'll have a better experience. It has tons of potential as it was very crowded. I'll chalk it up as...
