The cuisine here is delicious! The pasta dish I ordered on my first visit was something that could be made by me in my home, but Ruvo has their very special variation with subtle flavors that makes you think twice about cooking on a Sunday ever again...and be grateful you forgot where your kitchen is. Thinking twice and remembering are Olympic events to me. I cook heavily with oregano and basil, but with limited variation or imagination. So it is nice to taste a different interpretation of a dish; lasagna is a good example. There is no single way to make it. Ruvo's interpretations of good Italian food is so subtle and spot on that they coerce me to want to make it at home Monday through Saturday. They are Italian and I am not. Enough said. I ordered brunch the second visit (last Sunday, which was simple yet a delicious and ample portion. Brunch offerings are tasty, but the seafood frittata I ordered paired with a Bloody Mary was insanely delicious, out of the ordinary! It was unlike any other in my sixty years. Okay, I waited the first eighteen years, so forty-two years then. Breakfast sometimes can be boring, you know what I mean. Not the seafood frittata. Not the bloody mary. Both are unique. Oh noooo, you will fondly remember this meal, trust me. Once I made an omelet with gruyere cheese and lox, garlic, onions, with oregano and basil. Excellent! Mouthwatering! ... Their frittata is beyond that, as it is made with a knowledge of spice variation and preparation without alienating those who are dead-set on their Mama's recipe. It is very close to the nirvana scale.
My server, Rose, was kind, friendly, and efficient. You could not have a kinder lady waiting on you unless she WAS your mama. I thought she was the owner because of the attention she had given me. You will want to take her home with you, but don't...please. I don't know how to order from the chef and then wait on the other customers. Thank you.
Our last item is ambience, atmosphere, whatever term you use. The comfort Ruvo exudes is not unlike a library in one of our "Gold Coast" mansions with leather bound tomes and big, leather easy chairs as well as old men smoking cigars. However, there are no oversized books covered in dust here. You can relax for there are no tomes, parlor chairs, or smoking cigars, but you may find some "old men" over forty enjoying a meal. (If you are twenty, then forty may seem old to you.) The chairs themselves don't provide the comfort which I am trying to describe. It must be the cheerful decor which immediately relaxes and then the cuisine is like icing on a cake. Yes, that's it! Their bright and airy signature exudes its own simple, cheerful elegance. The real noticeable feature is the Miami-like palette of vilbrant color splashed here and there. See my photos, they don't lie. In other words: a very home-like, uplifting vibe to be found which is far from stuffy.
Price point for the menu is very reasonable. I very much like this place and it is my desire to not overlook it in the near future. Vibrant decor, high quality cuisine, attentive service, and affordability makes this restaurant special. Rose makes it extra special.
Let it be known that many restaurants compete for my attention, but I have both this review and kind staff to make it impossible to forget them nor be distracted by area trattorias. I wish to continue dining here after attending church services and the other times when the North Shore simply calls my name. Those times suddenly need to be increased because Ruvo beckons me. May 5, 2019. Thank you Rose!
If you know my reviews, then you know my pet peeve for clean restrooms. No problems here. They pay...
Read moreSo disappointed! Went for our 41st Wedding Anniversary. Had a 6:15 reservation. Waited at hostess stand for 5 minutes. A waitress said she would get the hostess but after the 5 minute wait, the server decided to seat us. We got half way thru the restaurant and the server saw the hostess return to her desk so she asked to wait for the hostess. After standing in the middle of the restaurant for another 5 minutes, the server asked us to go back up front to the hostess stand. The hostess then proceeded to seat us at the table we had stood in front of for 5 minutes! After 11 minutes my husband asked the hostess to send the server to the table. The table next to us was seated after us and the server had already been to their table. The hostess then took our drink order and appetizer order. The server finally appeared to take our order. We asked if the kitchen would make a Gorgonzola salad for us. It was a long time staple on the menu but not tonight. She said she would ask the kitchen. She returned about 10 minutes later to say they would not make the salad. Very disappointed because all the ingredients they needed were part of the salads they did offer. Oh well. Our appetizer of meatballs took almost 45 minutes to be served. My husband and I both ordered the NY shell steak, medium. When the entrees arrived I noticed my husband’s steak was almost twice as thick as mine . Well his was a perfect medium and mine was well done. I sent my meal back and did not want a replacement, just wanted it taken off the bill. My entree was taken off the bill and they offered us complimentary dessert. We really did not want dessert so had a round of drinks taken off the bill. We have gone to Ruvo ever since it opened and was always very pleased with our meals. That’s why we chose Ruvo to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, my husband said he will never go back. Happy 41st...
Read moreAvoid RUVO at all cost if you are a Celiac or even if you are trying to avoid Gluten. Although they have a GF menu, they certainly do not adhere to it. Started with the GF scallops, too salty and served with gnocchi, exactly as described on regular menu. We were assured that it was GF, just to be safe, I was the only one who ate it. Next, ordered the crispy duck, again, it came out as if prepared off the regular menu description on a pile of Fregola?!?! Btw, Fregola is not GF! Was assured again that the entree was GF. As uncomfortable as it was, we asked Joe our server to please check with the chef. We waited a few minutes and Joe returned with a bowl of string beans???!!! But said everything was GF.....ugh! She ate some of the duck as she was starving and was sick for the entire night and all day Sunday! Never mind the long term effects of ingesting Gluten, she is a Celiac and does not choose to be GF for dietary reasons. Finally, I had the filet, asked for it med rare, came out well done overly salty and to compliment it, a side of ice cold asparagus. We each took home more than half of our meals( which were not huge servings to begin with). Threw them in the trash the next day. Oh well live and learn, $140 for a couple of glasses of wine and my poor wife sick. We will never be going back! Usually I don't write reviews( we just never go back to a restaurant that we've had a bad experience in) but I thought it important warn other people that are vulnerable to Gluten poisoning. Be warned! If you are going to offer a GF menu, You must adhere to it! You are jeopardizing people's health. It would be easier just to remove menu entirely, or remove...
