Swallow Kitchen & Cocktails TL:DR small plate, cozy atmosphere, fancy cocktails, make a reservation.
Incredibly good ** The atmosphere is cozy, but a little close. Dimly lit with fanciful décor, swallow is an ideal place for a date night, a girl’s night out, or some lovely craft cocktails at the bar with friends. If you do not enjoy dining close to other patrons, it may not be so enjoyable. There were several craft cocktails to choose from. We tried the Raspberry Tarte Spritz, made with Chambord, lemonade, and prosecco. It was light and fruity and would make a lovely breakfast cocktail and was a genuinely enjoyable way to start the evening. We also tried the harvest sangria, red wine, apple brandy, triple Sec, apple cider, and bubbles. The sangria was crisp and delicious. There were many more choices, such as the Hazelnut Lattini, stoli vanilla, Mr. Black, Coffee, and Hazelnut cream. It looked delicious, I did not try it, but the table next to me did and it looked amazing. I will definitely return to try this and some of their other signature cocktails. The food was incredibly good. We ordered the butternut squash cappuccino, with truffle cream and cinnamon. We also tried the “mac and cheese,” the mushroom toast, and the cola braised short ribs, finishing our meal with a tres leches bread pudding. The butternut squash cappuccino was divided in the kitchen so my companion and I both had our own cup. It was delicious if a little sweet for me. I do not believe I would be able to finish an entire serving on my own, thank goodness for friends. The “mac and cheese” came out second. Orzo pasta with peas, and bacon in the most luxurious creamy cheese sauce, comes across more as risotto than a pasta and was sinfully delicious, highly recommend. Our third course was the mushroom toast, forest mushrooms, with cognac, mascarpone, charred kale, over grilled ciabatta bread. Honestly, the highlight of the entire meal. I would have been ok not sharing this one! Just kidding, I did not mind sharing, but it was really that good. Would absolutely order again. Our last savory course was the Cola braised short ribs with garlic mash, carrots, and fava beans. It was great the mashed potatoes were super creamy, and the short ribs melt in your mouth delicious, however, I thought the cola braising liquid was almost too sweet. We finished the meal with a tres leches bread pudding. It was delicious if not a little dense. The caramel sauce was to die for. The service was quick and attentive, and we did not lack for a thing. There are so many choices on the menu, you could come time and again, and never have the same thing twice; plenty of choices to satisfy the most discerning palate. It is a small place. Reservations are necessary, even with just two people, even at 5pm. If you want to experience Swallow, do...
Read moreLet me start by saying run, don't walk to swallow! Wow! What a restaurant! From the service to the ambiance to the incredible food, if I could give it 10 Stars I would!
First, hats off to our server Isabella, who was kind attentive and patient! She was amazing ! Thank you Isabella for a wonderful night !
First we ordered two drinks. I wish I took a picture of the drink menu, but my girlfriend ordered the cosmo at the top of their specialty drink list, and I ordered a smoky spicy Manhattan style drink made with Whistle Pig bourbon. Both were excellent.
Then we ordered two of their small plates. The grill octopus and the mushroom toast, and wow, were they phenomenal. It was probably the best prepared and cooked octopus I've ever had, and the mushroom toast made with cognac and mascarpone cream was so good we practically licked the plate.
For the main part of our meal, my girlfriend had the steak Tokyo, and I had the half pound wagyu Burger with gruyere cheese and caramelized onion Jam, served on a brioche bun and cooked medium rare to perfection. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. The flavor was out of this world. The burger also came with shoestring french fries which were the thinnest and most delicious I've had in a long time perfectly salted . My girlfriend raved the same about her meal . We both finished everything and there wasn't a morsel to bring home. I was so impressed with everything that I actually opened the kitchen door and paid my compliments to the staff. By the way we got the table right next to the kitchen which typically, isn't the best seat in the house, but let me tell you this, it WAS the best seat in the house! The whole evening cost us $137 including the 20% tip. We both looked at each other and said this is our new favorite restaurant. Try it...
Read moreWent out to dinner for a friends birthday for the first time in 6 months because we both have small children at home. Kept getting DRIPPED on from the open air system in the ceiling. Expressed disgust to the waitress about getting dirty water repeatedly dripped all over me, my hair, my dress, my arm, and even the table where we're eating. Our waitress, who was both kind & mortified, moved our table. At this table, the same think continued to happen, because we physically remained under the same cooling system pipes. After repeatedly getting dripped on at this new table, our waitress spoke to the owner, and suggested moving outside. So we moved to a high-top outside, where it was hot, buggy, and I was sitting in a dress in a high metal barstool with my pocketbook sitting on my lap. I expressed my frustration with our waitress yet again, and decided it was time for us to actually ENJOY one of the few nights a year where we get to leave the house without our children, and have our entrees at another establishment. Because not only did the owner, manager or literally ANYONE, NOT come over to our table to acknowledge how disgusting it was for a patron to continuously get dripped on by dirty water while they're trying to eat a meal, or any form or an apology or acknowledgment of my experience, after being moved THREE TIMES. Then proceeded to give us the full check, with not a single thing comped on it. I live in the area, and will be highly stressing to all of my family and friends in the area to AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Restaurant was also half empty on a prime Saturday night. I think that speaks volumes in...
