Decided to check out Bill Gray's Taproom after our day at the nearby Seabreeze Amusement Park. The building looks nice inside and out. Seems to be mostly clean and well-kept. But the service we received was terrible. First we were told to sit anywhere. Most of the booths and tables were 4-tops, but we have a family of 5. One large round table was severely tipping (we could envision kids drinks spilling) so we moved to another section with larger tables, only to be told we can't sit in that section. Waitress nicely offered and assisted with pushing two 4-tops together. She was also very nice through the initial ordering process, despite insulting my beer choice. Once the food came out, we were missing just one side item. When I realized, I asked the waitress for it. She said she'd go check -- it was just an order of fries, so it should have been sitting in the kitchen, or at most, only taken 4-5 minutes if they forgot to make it. Well, we waited at least 20-25 minutes. After this point, we were basically invisible. Waitress never came back. Didn't ask how the food was, no updates on the missing fries, didn't ask if we needed more drinks (I would have ordered a 2nd beer if she had asked) or dessert. When we finally got her attention again, we just asked for the check, minus the fries we never received. When she came back, she just dropped it off, no apology or explanation. As for the food itself, kids and my wife seemed to be happy with their food. My burger was pretty good, but I think branding themselves as the "home of the world's greatest cheeseburger" is a stretch. The patty was thin and almost burnt, and when you order a burger, that's all you get -- just a burger. And even though we knew to order fries separately, it's not of any use when said fries are never produced. It's always disappointing to leave a restaurant hungry (especially before a 2-hour drive home), so Bill Gray's taproom gets one star from me, and it would be zero if that were an option. We were also going to order ice cream, but rather than risk waiting another indeterminate amount of time, we paid our dinner bill and left. So that's at least one beer and a family's worth of ice cream orders they lost simply due to...
Read moreWe go to this location often during baseball season and tonight was by far the worst experience we have had eating out in a long time. We sat in the dining area. The server came up and took our drink order- she requested us to repeat ourselves a few times as she seemed confused and then she mentioned it was her first day- fine no big deal. From that point on, not a single food order for our party of 5 was correct. We order boneless wings as an appetizer and received regular wings. We ordered slushies with our kids meal, never received them. I ordered a garbage plate with just meat sauce, it came out plain. Another ordered a mushroom swiss burger with BBQ sauce and it came out with ketchup, mustard, onion and meat sauce but the worst was my husband who ordered a garbage plate with everything except relish. It obviously came out swimming in relish. We had eaten the regular wings without making a big deal and to be honest there were so many things wrong we only corrected some because we felt bad but the plate he sent back. After waiting a half hour for the remake of the plate he finally questioned where the plate was and also asked where her trainers were- she just kept saying it was her first day and she didn't have trainers. It was already close to an hour and half since we sat down so he just asked her to have the plate boxed up and he would take it home. She proceeded to bring him out an EMPTY to-go box! At that point he couldn't take it anymore and asked for it to be removed from the check. The worst thing was the other servers who I assume should be helping her if it was in fact her very first day acted like they didn't know anything about what was going on. A manager, if there even was one, never came over. I don't really blame her other than she was very nonchalant about so many things being wrong but they definitely shouldn't have a brand new server out on the floor on her own without another server at least checking on the tables at some point. It was just terrible. Unfortunately we will go somewhere else...
Read moreWas really impressed because a couple of friends of mine and me went into Bill Grays for dinner last night. The lady at the counter was obviously new, as she was asking her co worker how to do things. I think she misheard or misunderstood us when we ordered three impossible burger garbage plates, because she put in an order for 3 plain impossible burgers and added each side as an extra order. So when my friend asked for fries and mac salad with his plate, she put in an order for an extra side of fries and an extra order of mac salad. We didn't understand why the price came out so high afterwards, nearly $60 until we got home and discovered that on top of not getting the plates, we were given impossible burgers with nothing on them. I didn't want to complain, but $60 is a lot to spend for a dinner for 3 people when you're expecting to pay a little more than half of that. My friend was upset and I called the location and spoke with manager on duty, Aaron. He was really nice and understood why we would be upset. He offered 2 free impossible burger plates for the next time we came in. We live close by, and at least stop at Bill Grays once a month or every two months and I will continue going here, as will my friend and her boyfriend, because they know how to take care of their customers. That makes me really like the way they handle complaints, because I was not trying to be rude or pitch a fit, it was just an unfortunate miscommunication and they rectified it which makes them A...
