In a city chock full of retsurants specializing in, or at least featuring pizza, for me, The Salty Bread Pizza Cafe did not really stand out from the crowd. Yes, the french bread style pizza was good but not anything really that diffrenet from others I've had. The ingredients were fresh, and well balanced, but not really memorable in any other way, and truth be told, while the bottom of the bread was crispy, the top under the sauce was soggy. I also ordered the turkey/bacon/smoked gouda panini, which was also good, but also not unique from the multitiude of other paninis served across Rochester. What I find really missed the mark was their take on tater tots. These are mashed potato balls, that are fried, and served a couple of ways, including poutine style, which is what I choose. The gravy was thick, and good, and the cheese curds were, well...cheese curds. However, as you can see from the picture, several of the tots were well past done, and burnt, including the underside of several others in the order. After an initial bit of crunch on the outside, what you essentially have is poutine mashed potatoes, with a burnt flavor. The true stand out for me were the Great Grains branded desserts (Smores cookie sandwhiches) which I have not seen elsewhere, and they were fantastic! The service was very friendly, the restaurant was clean, but the prices are a bit on the higher side for what you receive. If I were in the neighborhood, I might stop in again, but I would not make a speacial trip out to the seabreeze area for thier food.

I went to salty bread pizza to see what it was all about. I had heard of the salty French bread pizza and how great it is so I thought I would try it. I ordered a salad and a pizza which says made on the famous salty bread so I thought is was good to go. The salad was a great value and very fresh. I definitely would recommend that, however the pizza seemed off to me. It tasted like any normal French bread pizza that you could get anywhere. I though what's going on maybe I messed up somewhere. On my receipt it showed I ordered the right thing but under it it said (less salty version) I didn't ask for less salty, in fact I love salt so I would have thought to do that anyway. I asked them why it said that and they said well the tops of the bread are nice and salty but the bottoms are really not and they just use whatever bread they have to make them so I ended up with two bottoms. That's not what I expected when I ordered a "Salty" bread pizza and I feel like the description was misleading. I should have received one top and one bottom. That would be a full order which is what I asked for. Needless to say I wasn't impressed with the pizza and didn't appreciate not getting what I ordered or being told ahead of time that the pizza would just be on not really salted bottoms. Just bad luck for me I guess but something to be aware of if you go there. Make sure you tell them to give you what you expect.

Lunch time! My wife is running a road race tomorrow so she wanted to carb load in a fun way so we decided to give this place a shot. It’s a small location that’s feels welcoming. It’s not fancy and that’s right up our alley. We wanted to try the Salty Bread pizza and I also wanted a slice to compare it too. We ordered a buffalo chicken and margarita salty bread. And a regular pepperoni slice. The slice was your average slice. Plenty good enough to satisfy the craving but nothing special. Now the Salty bread is very good. The bottom is crispy and the top is softer and easy to bite through. We enjoyed both of them and would return to get them again. The Buffalo had a lot of chicken on it and the margarita pizza was nice and mellow as expected. I will return to try the Thai chicken and the cheeseburger which looks like a Big Mac style pizza which I wish I saw before ordering. I only noticed it on the menu and not the chalk board so hopefully it’s still a choice! We overheard they sell the salty bread by itself. That would be good to grab a loaf and make things at home!
