My husband and I have been to GSB multiple times and have raved about it to our friends from out of town. We decided to all meet up on a Saturday afternoon so that they can experience it for themselves. We were a group of 6 adults and 3 dogs, and the afternoon started off really well with everyone enjoying the atmosphere and their drinks.
After being in a vehicle for over 2hrs just to get to GSB, two of the dogs had a bit more energy to get out of their system but nothing too vocal or violent. After the first bark, without an opportunity to even calm them down ourselves, the security guard already came over to tell us people are complaining and we should take the dogs out for a walk. Meanwhile, no one has gotten up to complain, in fact almost everyone in the building came over to say hello, as there was not a big crowd of people at the time.
After the security guard came over, and the dogs were calm, he stared the group down for the remainder of our time there. In fact he and I made eye contact several times. At one point one of the dogs whimpered and he stood up all mad. A few moments later, when the smaller of the three dogs was overstimulated my friend stood up to take her outside and the security guard followed her out, telling her that âour party should get better control of the dogs or go to a quieter spaceâ. This was unprofessional and she should not have been ambushed like this and singled out, while doing exactly what was requested of her - taking the dog for a walk.
The security guard then came over to our table to reiterate what he told my friend and we asked to speak to his manager, as once again, we were stared at the entire time and I could see no one spoke to him with a complaint. The owner happened to be sitting at the table next to us, without us knowing, so he stood up and tried to assist by offering us another round of drinks. He was then âupsetâ we were leaving without taking his round of drinks saying âwhat, you had a bad experience so youâre just going to leave?â
What would you do in this situation when you already feel targeted and uncomfortable? Would you stay?
When I expressed this to him he shrugged and said âwell, if you give me a 1 out of 5 I still pleased 90% of othersâ. Is this the type of person you want to support? My husband and I will not be back at GSB.
Additionally, his reply to my friendsâ review (who are sisters but were both patrons, so why does them being family members matter?) is absurd. The three dogs weigh 35lbs, 75lbs and 100lbs. Which dog exactly did we put on the table? I believe heâs mistaken us for the table next to us with a dachshund on the table who were also appalled by his and the security guardâs behavior. They also asked âwhat if it was a child crying? Should they be asked to leave as well?â and got no reply.
As we left he and his table of friends cheered and offered us other establishments that âlike dogsâ and are âreally dog friendlyâ.
If you have dogs, think twice about bringing them to Great South Bay, unless they are stuffed or on batteries because thatâs apparently the only type of dogs they...

Read moreI arrived at about 2pm (on a Saturday) with 6 adults and three dogs. My party drove nearly two hours from Brooklyn with the promise of a dog friendly dog brewery where we were able to stay indoors. Upon one of the dogs letting out a single bark, the security guard descended upon us telling us people would complain if the dog continued. We quickly took the dog outside to calm her excitement. As our table ordered numerous dishes and rounds of drinks, we noticed the security guard watching us closely. It is to be noted that one member of our party was the only person of color in the establishment and the security guard went to him specifically to tell us the dogs were making too much noise. About an hour after we arrived and received our food, one of the women walked out with her puppy and the guard followed her out to yell before her to stay outside. Once again, he came back inside and accosted our table. We said it was clear this was not a dog friendly establishment. The guard told us to leave. At that point, the owner, Doug, who was at the next table got up and asked what was happening. He told us the guard was doing his job and that they love dogs and offered us a round of drinks. The security guard insisted that we go in back and that people were complaining. We knew this wasnât true as we saw him staring at us since we had entered. When the table next to us commented what a shame it was that this was happening (they had a dog as well,) the ownerâs friends jeered at us and told us to go somewhere else. The owner said that even if we leave a bad review, he will still have a great overall rating, and continuously asked the one black man with us if he was okay. We left after settling our tabs and will never return. We felt targeted...
