Noon Mark Diner — Restaurant in Town of Keene

Never again. Been coming here for years and today had the worst service I’ve ever had at a restaurant in my 52 years. I hate to do this, especially to small, independent local places. It took us 15 minutes to get drinks, but the kicker was the solid hour to get our food. Our waitress did not check on us even once to refill our drinks and not because she was busy helping elsewhere. She exited the restaurant to the outside for 10 of those minutes and returned and talked to coworkers at the cash register. It got so ridiculous that I had to ask another waitress who was clearly hustling if she could locate our waitress and check on our food order. I even told her that if our order had not been started that we would be fine going somewhere else at that point. Finally, OUR waitress returned and said it will be out in two minutes. She apologized and gave us the “local” 10% discount. Our food was fine, but even below Noonmark’s usual quality. It should be noted that all the customers around us experienced the same horrible service. The kicker of the whole thing was our waitress said as I was paying her at the register “Just so you know, that was not my fault. Your wait for the food was exactly as I said it would be.” Neither myself nor anybody else in my party complained about the wait during our experience or when I was paying, so that comment was extra and unsolicited. I know kitchens can get slow, but there are things wait staff have control over and that is checking on your customers and at least trying to keep up drinks. I almost never do reviews and I know every business has a bad day once in awhile, but the service we received and the final comment were totally unprofessional and uncalled for. The best. Nestled in the small town of Keene, you could easily bypass this small charmer, you may even think its closed. The service is phenomenal, sweet, kind, charming waitstaff. They go the extra mile and its noticable. Becuase its in such a small town, you may not expect much- but man, do they deliver. Everytime i shred Whiteface, I drop by this diner on my way home. Ive had everything from pancakes, omlettes, sundaes, pies- to hamburgers, nachos, chili and soup. They are hands down, my favorite Diner. Nothing fancy, just damn good cooking and great service. They are the real deal. Make sure you pick up an apple crumble pie or a strawberry or raspberry rhubarb pie to go. Youll be glad you did. The first time i came here- I only knew to stop in this place based on the advice of a salt of the earth, older gentleman whom i rode the gondola with at Whiteface. We struck up a conversation, and i asked him if he knew where i could get a good meal at a fair price on the way back to NYC. He told me without hesitation, "Oh, make sure you drop by the Noonmark diner in Keene, its on your righthand side on the way home, about a half hour down the road. If you like pie, grab a rhubarb to go." Man was he right. Hands down, best damn Pie ive ever had. I can't even count the number of times I've been here over the years. It was the place to go after a hike to refuel with something unhealthy. But the quality has diminished in recent years.

The place is usually filthy anymore. The service is really slow, probably because they're always understaffed. Even when you can see the kitchen is packed, it may take you a long time to get any food or ice cream.

On the ice cream, there's no consistency with portions. On a recent visit I watched as several people, including myself, all ordered medium cones. First come comes out and is so tall they hit the service window with it. It was too tall to fit out the window. The next came out looking about what I'd call a large. The third a medium. The fourth, mine, a small. And the fifth medium cone came out smaller than most shops' kiddie size. No consistency.

You can watch people in the kitchen while waiting on your ice cream order. You can also watch them use their fingers to get hard ice cream out if the scoop. You can then watch them lick those fingers clean. Then they'll carry that dessert into the restaurant to some unsuspecting customer. It made me regret ever dining here, and made me wonder what sort of things happened to my past orders.

I'm sad that this place has become such a disgusting place in recent years. I will no longer stop here...
