I have got to say that George's had blown every expectation I had out of the water. I saw they were a steak house, so bar was raised. I knew that being in the lake George area, it was going to be touristy and like other places, I figured they wouldn't care if the service was good or bad, the food good or bad, or if anyone actually had a decent meal; because well, you're just a tourist. That is just simply not the case with George's Restaurant. Period. Even in the parking lot, they have their herb growing outside, fresh for every dish. Second, you walk in and have an amazing woodsy, outdoorsy feel like being in the Adirondacks. Third, the staff was all friendly and knowledgeable about anything you had questions about. Fourth, it was my fiancé, our 17 month old daughter and myself, and everyone was awesome about having her there too.
This is not a bar/restaurant. This isn't a bar that serves food, this is a restaurant that has drinks available. If you're looking for an amazing meal, cooked perfectly, and for a reasonable price as far as "steak house" restaurants go, this is the place to go.
I had the Top Serloin, medium rare. It came out medium rare, basically melting in your mouth. No need for steak sauce, so don't even ask for it. Shout out to the cook! Fiancé had their salmon special which was equally amazing. I ended up eating about half of it (her eyes are bigger than her stomach for sure) and I was already full from my dish. But I couldn't leave awesome food on the table.
All in all, honestly the best dining experience I could have asked for. Especially given the other places we had been while here, see above for the "touristy, I don't care if you like it or not" attitude, this topped the list for the best prepared steak, best tasting steak, and best service even while being understaffed.
Shout out to the owners for having a place that your employees want to come in, make good food, and provide good service. Shout out to the service for being willing to care. It's hard to come by. And finally another shout out to the cooks. It's difficult to find cooks that know what they're doing, and are willing to come in every day and put in the effort to provide amazing food.
Thank you George's Restaurant for being here, and also for making our...
Read moreWe were to meet my son & family in Lake George to celebrate their anniversary Sat 6/24/23. He told us to meet them a the East Cove Restaurant at 5:30pm. They're not there, we go to the bar as we have in the past. Get a drink & ask about the reservation - there is none. We get a phone msg, they told us the told us the wrong restaurant, errrr!. They're at George's which is only 100 yds up the road. "You're killin' me Smalls." After that hiccup everything at George's was excellent. This is a prime rib, steak, & seafood restaurant. Our waitperson, Richard T was pleasant, helpful, & efficient. Two Fiddlehead IPA ($8ea) and two Banfi pinot grigios ($11ea) during our meal. My bride had broiled haddock w/ a side of cauliflower ($28+$4) which was almost double the portion generally served in restaurants. I had the pork shank osso bucco w/ mashed potatoes ($31) and their very popular salad bar. A large & tender shank w/ a very good demi-glace. Very nice offering excellently prepared & served. "Our steaks and ribs are hand cut and house seasoned Entrees Include choice of salad bar or soup du jour / clam chowder and choice of starch" - George's. Also had the stuffed mushroom appetizer ($12) and a basket of garlic bread w/ pesto (chef's compliment). Also two petit prime rib dinners ($35ea) & a very large "Kids" spaghetti & meatballs ($15) George's offers excellent food & service. Note: And not just b/c my son is friends with the chef, Nick DeJesus. A great dinner as we have come to expect from the staff at George's. Open Thu-Mon 4-9pm. plenty of parking. Reservations are a must, especially during the busy tourist season. Highly recommended. Thank you to Richard T, Nick DeJesus, & the rest of the staff at George's. Nick* & Liz, Albany,...
Read moreI went here for my birthday with a party of seven. The waitress. Leah, was excellent, the food was not worth the money, and the manager/co-owner, Phil, was the RUDEST person I have had to deal with. My group experienced multiple issues; between food being over cooked and dry, and dealing with the rude manager. I ordered my steak medium-well, and it came out dry, over cooked, and covered in Charcoal bits. I took one bite and could not do anymore. Then I tried my shrimp scampi and it tasted like vinegar. PHIL went back to the kitchen and came out and said to me they didn’t use any vinegar in the shrimp in a very rude condescending tone. I said well I definitely taste vinegar. Another person in my party order the porter house, which was on he menu, and they ended up not having that, so he took a cheaper steak. His steak came out with the same Charcoal on it. He tried to dr it up with A1 sauce, and that didn’t work. When we were trying to let out waitress know, she was clearly terrified of the repercussions from the management. All of the staff seemed visibly frightened of repercussions. We felt bad for the staff. We had previously asked for separate bills and they tried to have us combine the checks in order to receive a discount for our issues. I said you can’t just take the meals off each check and they said they couldn’t, until we insisted that they keep the checks separate then the could do the discounts. Then the other person who got the different steak still got charged for the porter steak, instead of the cheaper steak and they gave him a hard time about that. Needless to say this was absolutely the worst restaurant experience I have ever had, and I will not be going back to George’s until they have different management and owners. Which may be sooner than later if Phil continues to treat customers with...
