The Barley House was an unexpected find on our way home from the city. The service was very good and the server seemed to know the menu well. My husband chose a burger, which was very good. I chose the homemade black bean veggie burger. The burger itself was excellent, but what made the dining experience less than optimal was the fact that the bun was way too small for the burger, the toppings and the sauce applied to both top and bottom. It was impossible to hold, everything kept slipping out, so I finally gave up took the top off and used a knife and fork. When I mentioned this dilemma to the server, I was informed that these were buns especially made for that burger! Well, then...have the bakery make a bigger bun! Read moreSpent $17 last night on the worst salad I've ever had in my life. For reference my gf & I go here every few months or so and she really likes one of their sandwiches. I've ordered the kale salad before, last time it was really good and the dressing was balanced and sweet and all the ingredients were fresh. Last night the "dressing" was a pool of vinegar underneath old wilting kale. It wasn't even tossed, and after tossing it I regretted it because it was then too acidic to chew or keep in your mouth for long periods of time. I could also taste how stale and dusty the candied nuts were, and there were way too many old hard craisins on top that only added to the sourness & acidity. I hate when kitchens treat your order as an opportunity to use ingredients that should be thrown out (and probably were about to be). Unfortunately, when I would call in a takeout order, I would have to speak to the MANAGER, ROB on the phone or have contact with him.
Initially, I was able to overlook that he was neither friendly nor accommodating and certainly by no means a professional. It wasn't long after I found out, you simply can't deal with him. There is no reason why anybody should have to be subject to a person in a customer oriented atmosphere who is SIMPLY RUDE AND CONDESCENDING, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT PROVOCATION!
When I couldn't reach the owner Bobby Harris, I realized he couldn't care less what kind of JACKASS he hired. If the owner will not return a phone call, then there is a serious problem.
There are plenty of capable people available........SO WHY CAN'T THIS ESTABLISHMENT HIRE a MANAGER WITH SOME DEGREE OF COUTH...
