I don't even know how to begin with this not pleasant experience with this place. What we ordered, I got the beef korma, and my husband got the shrimp biryani. His meal was loaded with cilantro (we never had cilantro in biryani before, and we both have that gene that cilantro tastes like soap) and after picking out what we could of the cilantro that was on it, my husband said, "it was the worst he has ever had but at least the shrimp was cooked well." My beef korma was horrible. The sauce looked like it curdled, the beef chunks was drier than a pine cone. It was more Mughlai korma than the Shahi korma (which lighter color version I love) my rice still had the bay leaves.. as you see in the pictures. We noticed they had the buffet food out --and the burners to keep it warm wasn't even on! We did hear prior to getting our food something dropped in the kitchen and really didn't think anything of it. But then we noticed the waiter get our dining ware from the buffet table. My plate was cracked. He gave us one napkin with silverware, but we ended up getting more because, the napkin was like this one ply paper, that couldn't even wipe air without tearing into confetti pieces. We got our food and didn't get our drinks..we just ordered waters. I was already not impressed with my dining experience and with that I just got up, and I ended up going to the soda fountain and getting a soda using their tea-to-go cup.
We paid $38.77 for some of the worst Indian food we have ever had. I mean it's not bad price to pay for horrible food, and not wanting to do adulting responsibilities. The waiter and cook came out to ask how it was, and if we wanted to go boxes. We declined, and they asked if we enjoyed it..my husband at this point was disgusted and was already walking away. I told them "it was terrible. Sorry but no thanks" I'm hoping it might have been an off day for them..we all have them but I do not forsee my husband and I going to that...
Read moreThis was one of the most AMAZING dining experiences I have ever had! My mother and I are vegan, and just happened to be in the plaza where this restaurant is. We decided to stop in and take a look, curious to see if there was anything we might be able to eat.
Well, we were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the kindness and accommodations of Shah, who was incredibly sweet, attentive, and helpful. Not only did he take us around and show us all of the options that were vegan, he took one of their regular takeout menus and physically marked every single vegan option with a pen so that we could be comfortable while ordering! To take it a step further, he then went to each dish on the buffet and marked them with a marker so we wouldn't forget which were vegan as well. He also brought us vegan naan and a dessert - I don't think I have ever felt so kindly accommodated and welcomed as a vegan in my life!
Besides the incredible customer service, the food was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! Every single bite was somehow better than the last! This was the best "let's just stop in and see" chance we've ever taken, and now this is absolutely our new favorite place. I cannot recommend Shalimar in East Greenbush enough, especially if you are looking for somewhere to eat...
Read moreMy wife Sue and I happened upon Shalimar the day they opened. We were both so thrilled to have an Indian restaurant so close by. We met the owner Shah, who happened to live not too far from us when we all lived in Queens, NY!
An instantaneous rapport developed between the 3 of us.
We have been back numerous times over the past few months, bringing everyone we know there!
We both love the vegetable samosas. They are to die for!
As I can't eat chicken or fish, I stick to lamb and vegetable meals. One of the great surprises was the Indian pizza! Wow! What a delight to the palate.
We're making our way through the menu, nothing has disappointed.
We just ate there tonight again. We both, of course started with the samosas. We also tried the shami kabab which is similar to a hamburger seasoned with Indian spices. Oh my gosh that was soooo good!
Sue had the Tandoori chicken and I the Lamb Balti.
Of course, we took home a ton of food for a great repeat at home tomorrow.
See you soon Shah at Shalimar to try some different items on the menu and to bring...
