I'm shocked. This place is deserving of a high in the 4s rating. My favorite Szechuan restaurant, clearly authentic Beijing House offers different dishes and combos. Sauces are thick. Flavors are strong. Service is pleasant and efficient. Non-fancy, clean, bright decor. The food is the star.
I would appreciate additional vegan choices on the menu. The Wood Ear Mushroom with Chinese yam is vegan and stupendous. Avoid the spicy Mapo. I recommend the delish, flavorful Tofu Hot Pot sans leeks and Stir Fried String Beans
3/20/2022 New menu, more including a few more vegan choices, still authentic and efficient. Same fantastic chefs. The cucumber appetizer is amazing and I recommend the simply delicious snow pea leaves w. fresh garlic, and chives w. shredded black tofu. Yum, yum
5/3/22 I am heartbroken but APPARENTLY they have new chefs. The dishes ARE NOT the same. My favorite dish the Hot Pot tofu, anchoring my interest in the place, was messed up! Even my close 2nd fav dish (the Wood Ear with Chinese Yam) was not quite right and the wonderful cucumber sauce was inconsistent. Efficiency is the same but new waitress tried to tell me the leeks I was served was garlic! There's nothing as a Szechuan red sauce made right. I would come here for the vegetable dishes that have no sauce to change and are hard to find (Snow Pea Leaves, Shaghai Bok Choy) Order carefully if you are a longtime customer.
The last time I was here some crazy lady came in here screaming at someone placing their order, apparently hellset on destroying our relaxing dinner. There's a hospital across the street. I'm wondering if she escaped from a psych ward. All of us had a big laugh after she left. Maybe we shouldn't have closed all of Long Island's mental hospitals
11/24/22 Lol, I go back and forth about this place and the wait staff has changed but seriously, they have the best vegetables. Don't miss the Shanghai bok choy. It's still fresh and yummy the next day, cold out of the fridge, and the other week I tried a fried tofu dish that was fabulous. They use fresh garlic, they still have the best hot pot sans the leeks and the kitchen is consistently efficient and dishes piping hot. At least 3.5 stars
I noticed someone here write the wait staff complained about the tip on their charge. #1 why are you charging a tip. They should be in cash #2 I've been here 20x and never came remotely close to your experience. Syosset is an extremely wealthy AND haughty place. I heard it's common for locals to tip $5 on $200 bill. I'm sure if you left an appropriate tip, you would not have been met with such unusual behaviour. 20% or $40 on a $200 tab is standard. Use a calculator if necessary
9/17/23 I've patronized this restaurant over a dozen times, in the last few years, dining in and take out. Some of the reviews are bizarre. Service has never been horrible and there's never been a fish tank here.
If you haven't yet had Szechuan cuisine- my fav and rare on Long Island, I recommend you visit Bejiing House, a favorite with Chinese in the area. I'm unsure why the wait staff changes, every few months but the service is similiar.
The vegetables are super fresh and orders arrive efficiently. I CANI'm surprised I didn't already recommend, the crispy Shredded Potato with Pepper. If you don't fancy spicy, be specific and ask them to use a scant amount of the pepper. It provides a unique flavor.
The pile of Shanghai Bok Choy pairs well with brown rice and is a meal in itself. The brown rice is tasty but the white rice is amazingly the...
Read moreI just moved to this community recently, searching new neighborhood’s nice shopping place and good food on Black Friday.my family went to this place, ordered some food, dine in.we enjoyed the food ,my children is happy,I told them I’ll take them here every day in the future. We paid $82 for $75 bill, we were about to leave the restaurant, the waiter came back with the bill and told us we needed to pay 15% tips minimum. Our tips was not over 10% so we needed to pay more. I feel ashamed that I plan to give him more and I asked him if this is your restaurant’s policy. He said that that’s the American’s policy. I asked him if he was the owner , he said yes. I said I never heard that this was needed and tips was given for service and you can give whatever you want. I told him I had a restaurant before, and he said you should know this if you did,you can go ,you don’t need pay more. I know what he mean:my family was not welcomed.all the employees and other customers looked at us,looked like we didn’t pay whole bill,we felt disappointed and humiliations. I told my children,we’ll never come here again.because their boss very care about tips but business.black Friday dinner was...
Read moreTHIS RESTAURANT SHOULD BE SHUTDOWN! I usually purchase Chinese food from queens, since this restaurant had good reviews we decided to try them. I purchased a take out meal for my entire family. First the plastic container was broken with a piece of plastic in the food and I let that slide. Few minutes into our dinner, my son found hair in chicken. We called the restaurant but they were closed since it was after 9. We threw all the food out. I called the restaurant next day and spoke to Niky. First she pretended not to understand English, even though she spoke perfect English afterwards. Then she questioned me that why I’m calling today when the food was purchased yesterday. I told her that the restaurant was closed but she refused to comprehend. I only wanted them to acknowledge their mistake, when she got rude with me, I told her that a I will complain to the department of health and she said “do whatever you want”. This is a very careless and...
