Yes, I recommend Rothman's.
18oz wagu strip was cooked perfectly (i love the char + med-medrare. However the 3 enhancement sauces fell very flat. Aupoivre sauce was "inedible" (and that's my fav!) It had a very awkward flavor like something went very wrong with it. "Try switching the cognac you used or maybe dont try so hard on the sauce" (why red peppercorns instead of green?) Foie gras butter/foam was light i guess but didn't leave me running back for more like I'd hoped. Bearnaise sauce was cooked well but too much tarragon for me (best of the 3 I suppose). Sorry, I hate to be this picky with food. My mistake asking for enhancement, the steak was perfect by itself.
We each had a drink which was perfect. Specialty drink menu, forget the name but it was like an old fashion. Just cucu-vod and soda for the Mrs.
Nice flavor on the creamed spinach, I wasn't expecting it to be frozen chopped spinach however.
Lobster mac and cheese had great flavor, texture, consistency and presentation. It was an all-around clean dish. It also had some lobster i think. (Sorry, cheap shot, it was good!)
Nice touch to the French onion soup adding the crispy fried onions on-top (it would have been, see note). Extra special credit to our server for intuitively splitting it into 2 smaller portions since my wife and I were splitting it. Very nice personal touch. *the crispy onions were soft (no problem, b/c they're on top of soup, all good!) but I could taste the, (hate to say it like this) greasy dirty fryer oil well over the soup flavor. sorry guys!
14oz wagu burger was excellent, nice and thick perfect bacon, great cheese, nice truffle fries. 10 of 10 hands down.
The banana desert had great flavor. Probably could have done more with the presentation instead of covering it all with whipped cream. I know, I know... i'm being way too critical.. but spruce up your encore, sell me the experience, excite my eyes and make me thing about the effort that went into it. If desert went fabulous I may have forgotten all about the aupoivre sauce, maybe.
I'm looking forward to having their wagu/foie gras burger the same way and I'm anxious to pay $40 for it. Unfortunately I'm probably not going to run back any time soon.
In closing, I really was glad to see the items on the menu that I did. The menu is well rounded with more time-tested semi-modern and also traditional crowd-pleasing options than I was expecting. The menu was designed well and certainly has something for everyone. it's probably something you've had before elsewhere and for the esteem of Rothman's I think you're right to expect it to be on par with some of the best you've ever had. *
Maybe I'll try the 3-course price-fixed menu next time, but they all do it the same way so I was ultimately aiming for more wow-factor ordering a la cart.
Service was a 10! It wasn't loud. Restaurant was full. Made a reservation the day before. I'd ask for the main dining room next time because it's really beautifully done. I would have loved to sip some red wine and closed the place down enjoying my time with my wife but it's covid after all and early was okay too...
Read moreThe food was decent but the service was horrible...We've been wanting to try Rothmann's for some time now and thought that my wife's 30th birthday was the perfect excuse. Our party of 5 had a reservation on Friday night and were surprised at how large this place really is. Despite our reservation, we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated - which is acceptable if not for the fact that almost every other person that walked in before or after us was seated immediately. It felt like we "didn't know someone" and I found myself staring at the hostess stand trying to understand why we were the only people not being seated. Once we sat down, it took 20 minutes for us to be able to order wine and then over an hour before our order was taken. I get it. It's a Friday night and very busy but the frustrating part was that not one of the many waiters and management walking around in suits (that obviously saw us holding our closed menus for that entire time) ever acknowledged the delay. When our waiter finally did come by he simply said "you ready?" as if it was our fault that the wait was so long. The somm was friendly but missed a huge opportunity for us to purchase more wine because he literally vanished after pouring glasses for our first bottle. He never came back to top us off, ask how we liked the wine or encourage us to purchase other bottles. The food itself when it arrived 1.5 hours into our dinner was tasty. We had oysters and the BLT wedge and both were good. For our main course, pretty much everyone ordered filet mignon. I was kind of surprised at how varied the steaks came out. Some were super thick and small while others were long and flat. The temperatures were inconsistent as well - we all ordered medium rare and our steaks were everything from light pink all the way to deep red. No one really came back and checked on us throughout the rest of our meal until dessert. I had asked in my reservation if they could do something small for my wife and while no one ever acknowledged that they got the message, a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and a single candle was brought out with our desserts. It was just placed in the middle of the table and wasn't acknowledged so we put it in front of my wife. Overall, the food was good but when you're walking out of a place spending $600+ for dinner, I expect an exceptional service and dining experience and that just wasn't the case at Rothmann's. We probably won't return - there's way too many other options out there with better service and steaks, especially for the price....
Read moreWe went to Rothman's Steakhouse last night and after more than 25 years of coming here, my Wife and I felt without a doubt the steak and the Lobster tail were both very small and hardly edible. This tiny steak that looked boiled and a greyish color looked and tasted like it was frozen for many months. The Ribeye was a little more than a half inch thick and tiny. The waiter told us the bone in Ribeye would be around an inch and a half and that was not true. We had a total of three drinks between us, a Bottle of Pellegrino a tiny bit of spinach and we shared a salad and we walked out with a bill of $274.00 We did not have Coffee or Desert. We go restaurant all the time and none of them come to $274.00 unless we each have 2 drinks, coffee and desert. The steak we had last night was literally half of what it used to be 5 years ago and twice the price. There was absolutely no value in the meal we received last night or the last couple of times and the owners of Rothman's should be embarrassed to have meals like this served andvat any price. We spend a lot of money going out for dinners each and every week and we have no problem spending money on good places but maybe next time we will go to a butcher and buy a steak to cook ourselves at home, make a salad and not give Rothman's our money. Follow up on my original review. We went back to Rothman's last night because our friends wanted to go there so we went and this time the steak was better and larger. What amazes me is that the owners of Rothman's do not answer these reviews or have someone do it for them. I own a largeer size construction company and I answer every review that is placed. This shows that these businesses today and yes they are businesses are just that and the owners do not care. If any of my customers are not happy, I answer them and I fix what is wrong one way or another. Every business should have someone or the owners watching for unhappy customers to make...
