I'm all for Indian fusion and creative Indian dishes, however, this place is not that. It's unfortunately just bad and unoriginal sort-of Indian food.
Paneer, roti, and paratha are not homemade, so this restaurant claiming to be fresh - please visit Patel Brothers frozen section. Specifically look for the “Deep” brand parathas in the red packets. You can tell by the triangular shape and the unevenly cooked parts of the paratha.
Can't change spice level? That means the food isn't made to order. Definitely made ahead of time and brought out room temperature so food definitely pre-prepared in bulk.
For an appetizer we were recommended Burrata chaat. The burrata was not creamy on the inside and nothing special, but at least there was some flavor.
We ordered the Salmon korma, it was fried salmon served on top of cashew paste. No depth in flavor in the fish or accompanying sauce.
Saag paneer was terrible. Huge chunks of hard paneer. Good paneer is a soft cheese that melts in your mouth. The saag was so salty.
Ordered a blood orange mojito mocktail, which tasted like juice. I'm confused, mojitos have club soda and fizz, this felt like someone just poured juice with ice.
I'm fine with inauthentic Indian restaurants, but honestly, this place is not good. The Trader Joe's frozen meals taste better.
Please do not charge $8 for a paratha that is bought from the frozen section.
Server tried his best, took some of the items off our bill, but I really had to hold back my feedback.
Table was cleared and waited almost 20 minutes despite asking for the check a few times. Ultimately had to go inside to find someone to settle the bill.
Sorry chef, chicken tikka pizza has been done and way better than here. Saag pizza? Thanks for putting my entree on naan. Seekh kabab calzone? That’s basically a kabab roll or a “crazy kabab roll” spin-off upcharged just cause it’s called something different.
If you are giving this place 5 stars, please visit any other Indian fusion or Indian restaurant in NYC or Hicksville. Many of them can be terrible, but it's still...
Read moreOther than the usual Punjabi and South Indian restaurants, Long Island lacks unique and creative Indian menus that are typical of NYC restaurants. This is where The Onion Tree comes in as it offers a refreshing taste to LI restaurant goers looking for quality Indian dishes with a twist. They have a special menu highlighting neapolitan style pizzas topped with classic Indian favorites such as Saag Paneer, Masala, and Chicken Tikka Masala. They also serve unique appetizers such as Dosa Waffles, Watermelon Salad, and Gol Gappa.
My party tried many of their items including the Saag Paneer, Masala, and Margherita pizzas, Salmon, Lamb, and Chapata Fries. Since I am vegetarian I will not speak on the meat dishes, though my friends said they were both spectacular and "the best they have had so far." The pizzas were all well done and brought out strong flavors of both Indian and Italian cuisine. The saag paneer one was my favorite and the masala one could have been a bit better in my opinion. It lacked a bold taste of authentic masala and the toppings kept falling of the dough. The chapata fries were actually spicy but were seasoned enough to make us keep wanting more. As per the desserts, I will not say anything besides that they are A MUST TRY. The dessert menu is not shown online but trust me, you will be wanting to try every item off their menu in person.
Service was spectacular! Our server, Kyle, was attentive and professional. He explained all of the best dishes on the menu and gave us recommendations that were actually good. Kyle was able to maintain a conversation and popped in some jokes here and there. I liked his energy and vibe the entire time.
There was a lively ambiance inside and outside. We chose the outdoor seating but I will admit that it was a little crammed and there were bugs that we had to swat away from our food. Next time, I would definitely choose to sit...

I’m currently on vacation in New York from India, and one evening, a craving for Indian food hit me—but not the typical fare. I was looking for something with an Indian soul but a twist. That’s when I discovered the Onion Tree in Long Island 's Seacliff area (they also have an outlet in Manhattan), and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
The restaurant has a warm, cozy vibe with perfect ambient lighting, making it feel inviting the moment you walk in. I went in expecting decent Indian flavors, but this place far exceeded my expectations.
They're known for their Neapolitan pizzas with an Indian twist, and we tried the Margherita pizza with curry leaves and the freshest tomato sauce I’ve ever had. The burst of flavors from the smoked chili elevated the dish to something truly special.
We also had the Eggplant Curry (a Baingan Aloo variation), served with soft, thin chapatis and a portion of rice. The chutneys were surprisingly bold—better than what you get at many high-end Indian spots.
Though we were full, we couldn’t resist trying the Dal Bukhara meal—and I’m so glad we did. It had the perfect blend of spices, creaminess, and texture that left us completely satisfied.
For dessert, we shared the Kulfi and Saffron Panna Cotta—both were mouthwatering and delicately balanced in flavor. Honestly, I’m running out of adjectives for this place!
What stood out even more was the diversity of the crowd. This isn’t just a spot for Indians—locals were absolutely loving it and rightfully so.
Highly, highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in New York and want to experience creative Indian fusion done right. Forgot to mention the Drinks- Tamarind tequila. Spicy vodka. Not a huge list, but each one...
