tldr: Rude & disrespectful employees/owners. Zambistros gave their employee our phone # & address putting our life, home, extending friends & family in danger only 30 min after being given a lost car key from our vender. The behavior from Zambistros, the employee, his "mother" & Kara is unacceptable.I don't recommend Zambistros catering service. Food was subpar, only provide what they feel you deserve not what you pay for. Our venue gave us 2 choices, between them & Hilltop Resturant. Had no choice to go with Zambistro since Hill top was booked. Our taste testing & menu planning with Mike went well, so we had hope. This was about Jun 22 to Jan 23, making arrangements, our wedding was in Jun 23. an entire yr later. We made our initial selections Jan 23. Fast forward to 2weeks before the wedding. We tried multiple times to contact them through email, even asked the venue owner if they contact them or us with final count. There was no response. My wife was in the middle of doctors visits to start family planning when she finally started to call us, and she was driving. My wife answered and told her she would call her once she was safely home to which she did not care kept calling over and over while she was driving. I also gave her several answers asking her to please wait since we have been trying to get ahold of her, to which she tried to turn it on us saying she was trying to contact us when we only got her contact number via mike after several attempts to get answers about finalizing. Kara claimed to think our wedding was canceled. No other vender made that statement and it was obvious that she had dropped the ball began to deflect & gaslight us which then a wave of verbal / emotional abuse ensues days after including am after wedding till even now claiming, "no affiliation" with employee & their mom meanwhile Kara was on of the biggest problems. We were told it was too late to order the featured drinks we already finalized back in Jan. We had a count of 87 in jan that went down to 63 and food ran out very quickly even with -20 people for final count. 6k plus for not even a normal plate. Kara proceeded to be rude, threaten us mafia shakedown style after we requested to pay early, which is weird as heck. “You better bring the money tonight &, cash because I want to make sure it even goes through.” We were supposed to make our final payment 7 days before the wedding. Even a simple request to get ahold of Mike to which we were randomly passed on to his wife Kara whom the vendor state they don't do business with. This was 9 days before, everything was due on day 7. 2days early & Karas anger/harassment was unprofessional especially as paying customers who wanted to pay early. We actually were forced to change our menu for fear of Kara canceling our wedding dinner or giving us only bare minimum to feature, which she did. We had to record all interactions after hearing the way she spoke to myself and My wife. She seemed to assume my wife wouldn’t or couldn't pay because of her heritage/last maiden name. Kara is odd & unhinged. My wifes family is in the restaurant / catering business as well for over 30 yrs in NYC. Never have they ever done that to a customer. On the day of the wedding, there was not enough for the53 adults + 8kids on final count. On top of all that bartender, a Zambistro employee, left their keys at the venue. Our coordinator wasn’t sure if it belonged to one of our guests, we took a picture sent text & left it in lost & found. The keys were returned as soon as the venue owner picked them up since she had given us the key by mistake. Out of our possession we received threats from employee his mother began my wife's phone was dead & once it was charges she received a sea of text, voice messages. According employee & their mother they not only knew our phone numbers but our addresses. That the police we going to be called on us for theft. He also informed us also that it was Zambistros that gave our info out, endangering us our family. Be...
Read moreFood was very good but a touch bland. Service excellent. For years I have asked for Guinness and it's never there. Last night, when there was still no Guinness, I said, "IPA?" No IPA either. This is an expensive restaurant and, generally, alcohol is a big money maker for restaurants. So, what is the problem? Zambistros is our Go To fancy, local restaurant. I want it to stay and succeed. I also want a bit more from it.
3/5/2022- Another visit. This time, they have IPA (Hayburner, yay) but no dark beers still. They have expanded the restaurant and are using these clear plastic domes they call igloos so they can serve people outside as well ($100 deposit required, and I saw people using them). I had the Zambistro Ragu. There were 3 of us. 2 Appetizers, 3 mixed drinks & 2 beers, and 3 Entrees. I had the Zambistro Ragu described below in the picture. Total around $196.00 plus 15% tip. My wife is eating Vegan, and she got some Gnoccis (also in the pic) and my daughter got a special - veal. Gnoccis - delicious. Veal - a bit tough. Daughter cooked leftover veal a bit more and it softened. The ragu was so-so, somewhat bland. I got it with Mama's meatballs - not so great and also bland. They came dry, around the ragu. This part is even more subjective than the preceding part. Service was okay. It felt like we did not get $196 worth of dinner and service for 3 people. It used to feel special though a bit expensive. Now it feels really expensive and not so special. My wife and I are are both sad to lose this feeling and will not be going back soon. We really want Zambistros to continue and to be a...
Read moreHonestly it was a very disappointing experience. The decor is a bit simple but perfectly fine and the service was great. Our waitress was extremely attentive and had a chipper fun personality with every interaction.
The food however is a problem. Bland is the word to beat describe every dish. The speed at which the dishes were served and the lack of taste have me suspicious that there is a lot of reheated already made food.
The chicken soup tasted like the chicken was canned and underseasoned. The lobster pasta in what could have been a canned alfredo sauce. The sauce had no seasonings other than maybe salt but that was it. Everything else: the lobster veggies etc were perfectly fine but when you cover it in a sauce that tastes like chef boy r dee made it and costs $34 you lost me.
The spinach bread was filled with spinach with a spinach dip. You know what I could barely taste? Spinach. I don't know how you even do that.
The seared salmon looked like it was someones first attempt at cooking salmon. Overcooked to the point that the salmon lost all the juicy characteristics you associate it with.
We were the youngest customers there by 40 years so I imagine the only clientele they want will see the food presented very well and assume it tastes good but at their age their taste buds have dwindled to the point of paying $100 for a dinner that could be reheated from the frozen aisle.
Mashed potatoes were bomb...
