Pleasant response to start when I called ahead of time for a 12pm seating for my family and 4 of my daughters friends ( a little birthday get together), a total of 9 people. I was informed once we started ordering that certain foods are "not allowed" in the "dining room" area. The foods not allowed in the dining room that we asked for were ...Garlic knots, 2 Large Cheese Pizzas and Buffalo Wings. Personal pizzas are the only pizzas allowed in the dining room. I was very confused since Mezza Luna is an Italian restaurant that sells all 3. We had already been seated in the dining room area and I did not want to move everyone to limited booth seating. These limitations wouldn't have been a problem for me if I was informed "ahead" of time. I did not see this information anywhere on their website, in their menu online, in their menu in the restaurant, and we were not informed before we were seated. We had looked at the menu online extensively before visiting Mezza Luna. One of my children has a disease that does not allow her to have gluten and the menu offered quite a bit of gluten-free options which we were excited to try in addition to the foods I mentioned above. Our server was very good. I did state my disappointment respectfully. The unexpected limitations and preventable confusion ruined my experience here.
I appreciate your response. I understand the economics from both your standpoint and the customer. Saying "Dine-In" is a pretty open ended statement when you have booths as customers enter your restaurant and you also have a formal dining area. How about stating in the menu online "Formal Dining Room Menu Only" and also reminding customers of this policy before seating them. Also, how about a little flexibility during the early lunch hour and for at least 5 potential repeat customers? I have worked in and dined in many restaurants...and "yes" high end ones too. Never had such confusion. We weren't there for "just" wings, pizza, and garlic knots as I noted in my original post. But even if we were, I shouldn't have to find out after we are seated what we can't order. For the record we did order food from the dinner menu and I intended to order more but I was very annoyed and no longer interested in trying the other items.
You asked what would make my next visit better. Fixing the problem areas above and a free glass of wine for my wife and I (she had to deal with me being annoyed). LOL The gluten-free Penne alla Vodka with Pancetta was very good and so was the Mezza Luna Beet Salad. The gluten-free pizza sauce and toppings were also very good but not the crust. Switching to cauliflower crust instead of the rice flour one would be doing every gluten allergy customer a huge favor.

Read moreHaving had a dozen plus meals there I always bragged how fantastic it was. I did also try to email their email but after a few days with no response I have not choice but to say here. I went this past weekend ( I forgot my saw!) I ordered the Veal as did my friend. We could not cut this and we did put our forks down but it took the waitress a while to check on us and we were starved. When she came and asked I replied do you really want to know? I do not believe she was not a "seasoned" server. I showed her and she hesitated not knowing what to really do. She did bring it to the back and asked if I wanted something else, however by then it was way to late. Sadly two lunches and prior to our being served my friend ordered a to go for her daughter of veal We asked her what did the cook say and she stated the cook was cooking so I told the "prep" person. I asked if the manager knew and she said do you want me to tell him? We replied we would like too. The manager happened to be the younger man by the Pizza counter, and was coughing into his hands our whole visit. I brought the issue of this terrible veal to their attention and he had a few excuses "we pound our veal thin" Yes it should be put not a hockey puck! "maybe it was cooked to long" The cook should not had let it hit the dining area! I am not so sure I can return nor recommend. All my prior visits were fantastic. Sadly not this. Nor how...
Read moreLet me start by saying before the renovation, this place was always delicious, reasonable and welcoming. The staff, particularly the older man, always checked on diners while they were eating and engaged in pleasant conversation. Fast forward to now. The renovation is nice, although way more Bronx than Brewster, and that’s where the improvements end. First of all, there’s about 15 staff (kids) all standing behind the counter doing nothing, yet interestingly enough, the service is poor. The meals my family and I have had were good, not exceptional or anything like that, but good. However, a meal like salmon is $25.00, does not come with salad or even a piece of bread and is a very small portion. My son who is 13 and 130 pounds had to order 2 slices after his “meal.” They could put up as many expensive wine bottles and hand towels in the bathroom, but people want to eat and leave satisfied, not hungry and taken advantage of. I tried it twice, but absolutely will not going back. There are at least 3 other real Italian places nearby that are better, more reasonable and have better service. My family has been the restaurant business all me life. I guarantee this place will be gone in a year. Once people, particularly families, go once or twice out of curiosity or novelty, they will...
