Always a great experience here. First time I’ve come for dinner, previously coming for brunch or lunch. We started with the warmed Spanish style olives which were a nice change. Warmed through without being too hot. For mains I got the blackened catfish with jalapeño-cheddar grits. While expensive at $32, the flavor was very good and I would absolutely order again. Other dishes we got were the veggie burger which has a really nice outer crunch to it being covered in panko, and the vegan grain bowl. The bowl had really nicely katsu style (fried) tofu and for being vegan was incredible flavorful. Highly recommend making a reservation and coming to enjoy this place!

So good. So friendly. One of only a handful of places along a narrow (See what I did there?) commercial strip of quaint shoppes and cafes. All the food in our party was excellent. So were the tipples. Couldn't be cozier on a frigid December evening. My only suggestion to the owners would be that if diners with a reservation arrive early -- before you officially open, let them in on a cold night. Not only is it super hospitable, but folks will belly up to that great bar you have and start the party and cash register ringing. (Photo is the view of the Delaware from the side of the restaurant.)

This place is good for lunch. Good, local drink selection. Warm atmosphere, great decor minus a seemingly out of place painting of a couple dancing. Lemon chicken soup was very, very good. Herbaceous, not as greasy as some fresh home broths. I had a deviled toast with goat cheese and olives. Toast would be better if crisper— needed to offset the amount of deviled egg on top. Could’ve used a touch more olives to add sourness and salt. Buttered biscuits are worth the trip. The honey butter is fantastic. Delightfully buttery, salty, and warm. Town is adorable. Great if passing through or local.

I"m deeply disappointed to write this review. We discovered this place about 6'ish years ago, if I remember correctly. At that time it rivaled NYC fine dinning in both food and service. The Heron immediately became a "must go" for every Catskills trip. We even arranged our trips based on getting a reservation here. We stuck by this place when the owner had health issues and the quality naturally suffered. When they closed during Covid we kept checking to see if they opened yet. Of course, as many other restuarants the quality again took a hit, but we kept ordering and visiting to support our favorite restaurant.

Last weekend we made our customary pilgrimage to the Heron. Our reservations were made quite a few days in advance and we arrived on time. Since we were all coming from the city in three different cars we arrived 10-15 min apart, but by 20 min after our reservation time we had put in our order. We did order an additional two dishes during our meal. As we ordered we were informated that our table had another reservation at 7:30 (1.5 hours after our reservation). When it came time for coffee and desert they were already pushing us out. Not wanting to have an even more unpleasant interaction we aquiesed and left. As we were walking out and the next party was being brought in it was obvious that we were being pushed out so that the hostess' friends could be seated.

I am heartbroken to have had this experience and that this formerly spacial place has now been tainted. On the other hand, I am looking forward to exploring all of the interesting new places opening up in the area. I wish the Heron all the best and I truly hope they can get these issues sorted. Service is no less...

Been here for a quick lunch on the deck overlooking the Delaware River previously. The balance of this paragraph was my review: “Quaint spot to enjoy the great food. The back deck is great when the skies are nice out.”

However, last night (Aug 2018) six friends had dinner and explored their menu for delectable selections.

Our party enjoyed “specials” and regular menu items which include salmon tartare, mixed baby lettuce salad, heirloom tomatoes & fresh mozzarella over cucumber purĂ©e, Malpeque Oysters, buttermilk biscuit w Mushroom gravy, and Old Bay spiced shrimp cocktail for our appetizers. All agreed everything was prepared well and delicious!

Our dinner choices included: their famous Roasted Bone Marrow, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Grilled Fennel Dusted Pork Chop, Blackened Catfish, Spicy Heirloom String Bean. All expertly created and beautifully presented; leading to moments of silence as we reveled in the sublime blends of flavors!

Having such deliciously prepared apps and entrees, we were determined to explore the dessert options! This led us to enjoy the Lemon Ricotta Cake, and the Goji Berry White Chocolate & Almond Ice Cream over Pound Cake w Fresh Strawberries...

The overwhelming and unanimous verdict was pure deliciousness and a definite return visit in the near future! We enjoyed prompt courteous service and the well decorated dining area! Mega kudos to the entire staff and a special huge WOW AWESOME to the chefs... Thank You for a delicious...

This place has no consideration and respect for families with children. We came in for a reservation making them very aware children were with us. The host at the front with dark hair and tattoos on her arms is very rude. She wouldn't let us bring in an umbrella stroller and suggested using their high chair or putting a car seat on a tiny bench which is dangerous for a car seat to sit. My son was too young v to sit in high chair. She gave us an attitude about it and as we were trying to figure out how to transfer my son to a car seat she proceeded to ask in a rude manner if she can go sit us now. The car seat caused the person at table next to me and everyone sitting at the bench with us to be cramped with a ton of space where the stroller could have sat. The space in which the host moved the table next to us to make but still refused a stroller go there. The host waited atleast 20-30 minutes after we sat to offer crayons and activity sheet to my 3 year old. Our waitress didn’t even ask for my child’s order or offer a kids menu, I had to ask after she walked away from getting everyone else’s order. On top of all of this inconvenience, my corned beef hash was burnt. Safe to say I will NOT be coming here ever again. Beware don’t come here if you have children clearly they have an...
