Started the night with calamari and the wedge salad. Wedge salad was perfect, dressing was good, and everything went very well together. Menu says the tomato was marinated. They were just halved. Calamari was cooked perfectly, sauces accompanied very well.
Being a steakhouse, we chose steaks. Filet and bone in NY Strip. For the sides, we went with whipped potatoes (8/10), brussel sprouts (7/10), mushrooms (10/10), and potato gnocchi (1/10).
The appetizers and sides were the highlight of the meal. Minus the gnocchi. Took one bite, and instead of a pillow of pasta, it was a solid chunk of raw dough. Hardly cooked and not edible. We made the server aware and sent them back, 10 minutes or so went by almost finished eating. We received a new order, the same results, raw uncooked dough nuggets.
Our steak temperature must have been mixed up either when rung in or in the kitchen. The filet was ordered medium well and came out rare. NY strip was ordered medium rare and came out medium/closer to medium well. It's not the end of the world, but it's definitely disappointing.
We weren't offered a dessert menu and asked to see one. Ordered the chocolate chip pretzel cookie, although the cookie was much larger than expected and the presentation was beautiful, it was underwhelming, dry. No dessert drinks or coffee offered.
Overall, the restaurant and setting are very nice. I feel as if our server was new, so grace was given. I never hold that against someone when I'm out. I don't know what they are dealing with, so if you are happy and show effort, you get a decent grade in my book. I do feel that for the price paid, the food in certain areas is lacking. I'm on the fence to give them another shot. Could have been an off night. I was expecting more steak options(4) as it is a steakhouse. The staff could use some more training on the menu, the runner was unsure of a couple of things when delivering the food.
Overall, I would give them 2.7/5.
Them menu has some modern touches but also takes on classics. Neither of which are...
Read moreWe stopped in for a celebratory Valentine's Day dinner. The four course special left us stuffed and most importantly was good overall.
First courses were salads from which we the BLT wedge and the Romain Caesar. Second course was choice of appetizer. Truffle Mac & Cheese with orecchiette pasta, creamed truffle sauce. We both opted for the Mac and cheese. I'll keep it simple here and tell you it was gross and undercooked.
For choice of entree we chose the Filet Mignon 10 oz. filet mignon, baby carrots, blistered tomatoes, fingerling potato and the 9 oz. Maine lobster tail, broccolini with hollandaise sauce, garlic herb whipped mashed potatoes. The lobster was supposed to come with asparagus but instead they plated it with broccolini. There was no mention of this adjustment, they just served the plate. My other complaint for the main entree was that my husbands steak was undercooked. He ordered medium well and it came out medium rare. He's a champ and powered through the bloodiness of it all. What I found interesting is that I did not see the manager personally check on the tables of other parties even though I heard him personally admit to the couple that the kitchen was having an "off night." Uh, do you think that nobody else could tell that as well? For well over $200 per meal, with drinks and gratuity, you'd think a check-in and thank you would be on the to-do list for patrons.
If you are considering dining here for a special occasion, this restaurant is okay and obviously the best option in the area, however if you are specifically driving in from a nearby city, you will easily find countless options that contend, at home, for a fraction of the price. Our overall rating is probably...
Read moreWe stop in at casino once in awhile to pass some time. We decided last night to go specifically to Portico to have the twin lobster tails. The setting of restaurant was very nice. We were seated way in the back which I though rather odd as there were smaller tables closer to the front to accommodate 2 people. Where we were seated was extremely loud and I'm not sure if they had a private party or if it was just the kitchen staff but it sounded like a bunch of rowdy frat boys whooping and hollering and swearing. Was very hard to even carry on a conversation. After we placed our order, mind you we had reservations for 8:30 pm, we waited another 45 minutes before our food came out. Once it arrived, it was plated nice and we were ready to enjoy. I had the twin lobster tails and Mac n cheese. Well, lobster was just warm, kinda rubbery and the butter had absolutely no taste At ALL. It was like colored water. My Mac n cheese was hard, barely warm and was the worst tasting I'd ever had. Kraft Mac n cheese would have been better! My companion had lobster tails as well and made same comments as myself. He had mashed potatoes and chard. At bottom of his potatoes was literally a whole red potatoe and the chard was only luke warm. The drink he ordered cost $14, yet price wasn't posted on menu anywhere. For the outrageous price we paid, I'll spend that money and buy my own and cook my own or better yet, use that money to play at the casino and eat elsewhere. Will never eat at Portico again. At least I can...
