I've always loved going to Romas and it has always been one of my favorite places to go and eat as a kid. The family has gone to romas for so many years and we have been very happy with everything we've ever ordered from there. But, I have to say the poor treatment I received today has me never wanting to go back.
I brought my bottles in late this morning, and placed my bags and bottles separated from all the others. I had quite a few so i had to make three different trips in. When I was ready to collect the money for the returnables the man that waited on me was extremely rude. I know people lie about the amount of bottles they bring back for some extra money. But, honesty has always been very important to me. And quite frankly, I have better things to do with my day than stand there and lie to a guy about the $13 in question.
He stood there and argued with me about which bags I did and didnt bring in, because clearly he wasn't paying attention on the three trips I made in. When I went out for the second load of bottles someone had moved the two bags I brought in and put them with the rest of the pile. When I was accused of not bringing in bags of bottles I went over to the pile and pulled out exactly which two were mine and the 12 pack of beer which had also been moved since my first trip in. He stood there and told me they had been sitting there all morning.
I was so upset he was accusing me of lying to him about it and we went back and forth several times before he decided he didnt want argue with me anymore I guess. He jipped me about a dollar but I dont give a damn about the stupid dollar. I have never been treated so rudely by anyone there or at any other establishment for that matter.
Clearly, they need to pay better attention to what they're doing over there. If someone comes in let them finish bring in their bottles before moving them. And certainly dont start accusing them of not bringing bags in when they were sitting right there.
I never want to go back and be treated that way again. So, I'm sure Gerry Tulls will be more than happy to take my bottles back from now on. They even do punch cards for some of there subs when you bring them there, and I've never been treated like a criminal for $13...
Read moreI grew up in Endwell and have sworn by Jim Roma's bread for most of my life! There was nothing better than fresh "Blue Bread", and when I would return home to Cortland from a visit to my folks, I would stock up on two or three loaves (it would freeze beautifully). HOWEVER, recently (in the past three months or so) the bread is terrible! One loaf feels like a ten-pound weight! It is doughy and yeasty and heavy and damp - like it was bagged when it was still hot and the condensation has seeped into the bread. I was hoping it was just a one-batch issue, so I kept giving it chance after chance, buying loaves pretty frequently in the past three months, in part because it would mold after just a couple of days. But, time after time, it was/is the same problems. It is such a significant issue that - sadly - if you don't radically fix these problems, you will have lost a loyal customer of fifty years. And, I am sure that I am not the only one. I guess it is Battaglini's "green or red bread" for us now.
PS - unlike some reviewers, I have only had great service when I have purchased bread at the bakery itself ... just want to clarify that it is the quality of the bread itself (lately) that is the problem, which is kind of shocking considering how many years I have been...
Read moreA little disappointed with my last visit as I feel a little cheated. First off the service is always great . Very friendly . My low star review is all about their food and the cleanliness of the place . I mean they haven’t updated one bit here since I was a child and it’s always dinghy in there . Their pizza isn’t as good as it used to be . They use very little cheese on their regular cheese pizza now and almost force you to get the “extra cheese” slice just so you can feel like you are eating what used to be a regular slice . It’s also never warm anymore either !the wholesale Roma pizza they sell at a kwik fill is better then the actual bakery. The city chicken was 5 dollars for 3 pieces of dry cold pork on a wooden skewer which is actually why I feel cheated and ripped off . A slice of pizza , city chicken and a soda was almost 13 dollars . As someone that eats out almost daily this was nowhere near worth it for the price or for the quality . This review has been along time coming as the last 3-5x I have eaten here I question why do I ? Childhood nostalgia perhaps ? I think I may use this leftover wooden skewer to “put a fork” in this...
