One of our family's favorite places to eat! Sun (Seon?) and his mom are an amazing duo that serve up delicious Korean meals in a cozy and relaxed setting. You can tell there's a lot of love that goes into the cooking, much like you'd see with a home cooked meal.
Portions are great on the traditional entrees, and things like the dumpling soup or ramen are more than enough to share with a few friends or as a main with another person. Family style eating is definitely doable here, and I actually recommend it so you can try everything they have to offer.
The sushi and sashimi is amazingly delicious and fresh. There isn't a 2 page menu of sushi roll options like you'd have in a sushi restaurant, but what they do have is a perfect pairing with their traditional Korean entrees. My hands down favorite is the Charlie roll... a definite winner in the lineup. Also make sure to check out the daily roll specials as well.
Other highlights are the lineup of soju(grapefruit and green apple are amazing) and the ice tea that they make on the spot. Additionally, they have a cooler full of mochi ice cream and other asian dessert treats to finish off the meal.
If you ask anyone in our family where they want to go to celebrate something or splurge on a great meal, Sook House is the answer...
Read moreThe food is okay, but the portions are way too small for the price you will pay. The service is invisible. While I like to have the waitstaff away from my table most of the time, I want to be able to find them. I, literally, had to wander the back of the restaraunt looking for someone to give us a bill. I finally found just one person watching TV. The atmosphere is weird for a restaraunt. It feels more like a bar connected to a family home. This is the third time I've gone, and it is worse now than before. The first two times, I thought they were remodeling, but, apparently, this is the look they're keeping. The prices are higher than before, the portions are smaller, they do not carry the traditional favorites, the atmosphere is unfriendly, and the staff disappear as soon as they leave your food on the table. It feels like I am intruding on a family who would rather not be running a restaraunt, and it is an uncomfortable experience. I wanted to love this place because I love Korean food. I definitely gave it a fair chance, but I won't...
Read moreJust moved to the area and came here for dinner on Friday night. The atmosphere seemed more like a bar. All walls are black with chalk graffiti everywhere where I suppose anyone can write something? The windows are all covered up with plastic and fabric or sheets while made the window seat booth less nice. This all made the place seem a little dingy. I didn't see where the billiards and karaoke were that I read about in other reviews, but may return to check it out.
I really like that this is a family run restaurant and that it has Korean and sushi options (the only of each in the area that I've found).
The bibimbap was tasty and comes in a special dish to keep it hot while you eat, but you can't get it to go which is disappointing to me since I would probably do that in the future. The chicken teriyaki was not good and included a very small chicken portion.
I'm planning to come back maybe to check out the karaoke/nighttime bar experience or to try the sushi for take out. This place...
