The location is wonderful, and I love that you can see right into the kitchen. The pizza oven makes for a great view, and I liked what I heard of the live band. The cocktail I ordered was so good, and my boyfriend liked the drink he got. We were sat quickly, our drink and food orders were taken promptly, and within five minutes we had our drinks.
Then our waitress disappeared, and not one server came our way until the couple sitting next to us flagged one down after they realized we'd been completely ignored for an hour. We never got our food.
As someone who works in a restaurant, it was clear to me that there is a great lack of communication between front of the house and the kitchen. People who came after us received their food. The couple that spoke up for us arrived about the same time as us and got their order within a respectful amount of time. Though they, too, never had another server come check on them, and the husband had to go downstairs to the bar to get them drinks.
The person working the pizza station was doing an amazing job, and pizzas were getting out at a rapid pace. The other side of the kitchen wasn't slow, but they had absolutely no hustle.
I do understand that they were understaffed, and it was busy, but an hour is a shameful amount of time to go without us being acknowledged. Had they told us there would be a wait, it wouldn't have been a problem. But there was nothing. The server that finally came our way was rude when we voiced our complaints, and completely soured what little there was to enjoy about the visit.
I will never come here again, and I really hope they train their staff better. This is not the type of experience I would find acceptable...
Read moreOn 4/8/2023 I took my out of town sister and her family of 5 to one of our favorites, Grace and Abe’s. Since we were with our family, 4 are under the age of 4, I felt this spot would be best for a quick dinner before we parted ways. We decided to go early (around 4:30pm) to beat any dinner crowd. Once entered we were greeted by the hostess with, “Please sit anywhere!” Looking around there was one other couple upstairs so we took our party of 9 to the corner next to the windows in courtesy of any other customers and to keep our little ones in a confided area. Without help from staff, we pushed two small square tables together to accommodate for our large group, all while smelling the wood fire pizzas cooking and anticipating a lovely pizza dinner! As we were parking strollers, lifting babies into high chairs, and taking coats off a different female staff member from the one who greeted us rushed over and immediately said, “This is prime real estate, you cannot sit here” and made us move with no further explanation. If we were not in a crunch for time and had hungry kids, we would have left immediately. We moved to a large table in the middle of the upstairs eating room that was in the path of any customers walking in and out. As paying customers, we felt a huge sense of not feeling worthy of sitting next to the windows and families with young children aren’t welcomed here. It is disheartening because we love their pizza and their beer and never have had issues before. We are big supporters of local businesses in this region, but no longer feel welcomed at Grace and Abe’s. It shouldn’t matter your status or income level, in a service job you make the customer...
Read moreMy family stopped here for dinner while on a road trip.
Atmosphere: At first glance, it's a nice little brew pub with the wood fire pizza oven and brewing equipment in full view. There were a lot of fruit flies swarming around, even though it's winter -- that's a bad sign for the sanitary conditions of the kitchen.
Drinks: We ordered a couple glasses of local wines. No complaints there, besides that they were out of stock of the first one I wanted.
Food: We ordered the Alfredo fries, salad, and pizzas. The fries were unexpectedly spicy, but otherwise ok. The pizza was pretty good; it's personal-size New York style. However, the tiny amount of meat topping was disappointing, almost like there was none. They didn't have Romaine lettuce for the Caesar salad and the server asked if it was ok to substitute with the "spring mix" greens. That was fine, but when it arrived, it was clear that some of the lettuce was ROTTEN. We notified the server and they gave us a small discount on the salad. Seriously? They serve rotten inedible food and then still charge money for it?! You can see some of the green slime that used to be lettuce in the attached photo.
Service: The waiter was very friendly, apart from the salad situation.
Overall: The whole family was dissatisfied and would not recommend this place. I just hope no one gets...
