Excellent "upside down" pizza in a style very like Utica's famous O'Scugnizzo pizza. I happen to really like this style, which features a flat layer of sliced cheese beneath the sauce, melded very tightly to the bread, and a dusting of hard cheese over the sauce. The rectangular slices are cut generously, and tend to be sloppy to hold. Many people don't enjoy upside down pies, so YMMV. Joe's pies are a little less salty than O'Scugnizzo.

Went in today for a couple slices. Haven’t had pizza in a while because of dietary restrictions but bit the bullet today and I’m glad I picked Joe’s. As good as it was when I was younger for sure. Upside down pizza is my favorite kind and Joe’s does it very well! Bummed Dave Portnoy didn’t come here when he went through Utica.

Best tomato pie I've ever had. Most tomato pies are too sweet for my taste. This was full of tomato flavor, without being too sweet or acidic. A nice amount of Romano cheese on top, with a crispy crust. Wish I found this place years ago, but I know I'll keep coming back. I ate half the pie on the way home, I couldn't resist.

Carla who apparently runs the place because Joe had surgery called us over 20 minutes before they closed to tell us, you need to have everything picked up by quarter of 9 because they have lives and kids that want to get home to.... She said Joe had surgery and he is not there so she's running the place, It says they close at 9:00 after we told her. We're recording her phone call to us on the way 25 minutes before and there. She changed her story too They close at 9 :00 and they just want to leave, she was very rude. The condescending smiles when she was telling us her dad is best friends with Joe..... And she's running the place because Joe is unable to..... Not okay!!! We will of course always order from Joe!! our whole family We grew up with Joe's Pizza and he is amazing!!! But the way my sister and I were treated tonight was a huge shocker because Joe would never stand for some random woman treating customers like she is!! This Carla, You need to learn something about customer service and how to treat your customers because the way you spoke to my sister tonight was not okay, Not to mention even after my sister said she's on depressio medicine and mental health is not easy for her right now and she's very laid-back and not okay. You treated her like she was some bum down the road on the corner........ I cannot wait until Joe comes back and he can learn and see what his employee did and how she treated people. I don't know why you left this woman in charge, but if you close at 9:00 you should not be having the person in charge, call people to tell them that they need to pick up their food by quarter of nine because they need to walk out of that building at 9:00 because they have kids and lives?? I've worked in so many pizzerias and customer service Businesses and customers come first!!! Yes you do have those customers that are too much, but my sister was very polite and nice with what she said and so was I. But I was very blunt, I know for a fact that Joe from Joe's pizzeria in whitesboro would not be okay with how his customers were treated tonight!! Carla, you are not a good person and the way you treated your boss's customers tonight, with the condescending smiles and the Not very nice things you said would not be okay if he heard it himself!!! I will always give Joe's Pizza five stars because Joe is amazing and does so much for the community!!! But I'm giving it one star for Carla. That is the reason and spreading the news about this woman because that's not okay to treat customers like that or anybody like that for that matter!!! Even if you're having a bad day, you do not treat people...

LOVE Joe's pie. UPDATE: The owner (Justin) did reach out to me. He's offered to send me a certificate for a few pizza. I'm a happy customer. I love supporting our local businesses, especially when they have a one-of-a-kind offering like Joe's Pizza... Great service and delicious food will keep them going strong. I'm glad Justin saw my Google review and decided to contact me. I'll continue to order from there every week or two as we always have. Their home made sausage was always great but it seems they've changed the recipe or use something different as the flavor was lacking a bit in my opinion. Also, I ordered by phone at 9pm, was told 25 minutes it'd be ready for pick up. I arrived 35 minutes later and after paying my bill the cashier said "it'll be a few minutes he's finishing it up for you now". Roughly 7-8 minutes later she walked back to check on it. Mind you I was the only person in there and the last order of the night to be filled before closing. No pizza waiting for pick up, no pizza in the oven, NO PIZZA! she whispered with her pizza cook behind the counter for a couple minutes then proceeded to explain that my pie was sent out with the delivery guy, and given to someone else. It's now 9:55 mind you. I was not at all happy. I was given the choice to wait for another pizza to be made or get a refund and have the owner call me tomorrow. I chose a pizza be made. She grumbled to the young man making the pizza about being there 5 minutes later than scheduled. My stomach was grumbling having waited an hour later than scheduled to eat LOL. The pizza was delicious. I feel it should have been free, and that the owner should be reaching out to me tomorrow regardless what choice I made. We'll see how much they appreciate their patrons tomorrow......

Addendum...... I want to add that the young man making the pizza was very polite, walked the box out to me when it was done, and sincerely apologized for the issue. I understand accidents happen. It's a matter of how it's handled that makes all...

I don't know what all these positive reviews are about, or why I saw so many customers, but this was a disappointment, and that is being generous.

I ordered earlier in the day for a later scheduled pickup. I was very much looking forward to some upside-down style pizza and tenders a reviewer said were fantastic (or something to that effect). I arrived about five minutes early, and my pizza was done, but my order of Buffalo tenders was not. I know this because the open kitchen and seating layout allows you to hear most everything. About 10 minutes after my pickup time, my tenders were ready and my order was brought out to me. I was a little annoyed since I placed my order hours prior, but it wasn't a big deal. I understand places get busy.

I was within a 1 minute walk, so I was excited for some fresh hot food. Well, what I got was warm upside-down pizza(?) now tasting more like tomato pie. There was plenty of sausage, a full layer across the entire pizza, but I couldn't taste it. For the matter, I couldn't taste much of anything. I don't know where my onions are, because I certainly can't taste or feel those in my mouth. The crushed tomato sauce just tasted like wetness, not even water, just wetness.

Reviewers warned against par-baked dough, but I've made, eaten, and used dough like this in the past those mostly came out great. But this was just flavorless, chewy bread.

I was so excited for the Buffalo tenders following my disappointment with this pizza-like food. I know when they're tossed they soak up some sauce and become less crispy, but these were already pure sog, just wet bread and tough chicken. They forgot to include my bleu cheese dressing, so I walked back over to get some. I was given my forgotten bleu cheese with no contest, but the bleu cheese could not save the chicken.

Most of this meal ended up in the trash and I'm left wondering what establishment I should brave next considering my continuing and prevailing hunger. Save your money; I...
