Tropical Grille — Restaurant in Travelers Rest

Sadly, I have to leave a negative review. I had just learned of this location. It was closer to where I live so I wanted to try it out. I have driven to the Tropical Grille on Pelham Road frequently. The service at Pelham is good, and their staff helpful and kind. As for why I am leaving a negative review for this location, it was the service that matter, not the quality of food.

I stopped in to order three sandwiches for my family, specifically the barbeque pulled pork, the Cuban, and the hamburger. The problem was on my way out the door, I inspected what was inside my bag. I realized the results were not as ordered. I returned to the counter, and stated their might have been a misunderstanding.

When I opened up the sack to show that the pork sandwich was not the barbeque and that the hamburger was chicken, one of the cooks loudly interrupted. She insisted that the failing was on me and that I "needed to learn the menu." Her last demand was that, "This is what we cooked, and this is what you are getting!"

As everyone in the store stared, I took a moment, nodded, and left without further word. Admittedly, the food was well cooked and acceptable, but even if I was wrong, that's not how you treat customers.

I do not know if I will ever be returning to this Tropical Grille at the shopping center near Furman University.

The drive to the Tropical Grille on Pelham takes half-an-hour for me, but it is worth the effort. I will be returning...

I ate this location yesterday evening. As it approached my time to order I quickly told the person I was on the phone with ( my grandmother) to hold on just a second while I placed my order. I'm telling you if looks could kill I would have been dead LOL. She was totally put off by having to wait 2.5 seconds, and continued to be rude the remainder of my order. I knew exactly what I wanted, and ordered it quickly. She kept interrupting me to ask things when I had just told her exactly what I wanted ( size and all )while ordering. Please just let me talk is what I wanted to say! She seemed very overwhelmed by the tasks she had going on and I get it, but it appeared that she could have been the manager so at that point who could you even complain to?! You cant have that kind of attitude and work with the public. She was rude to everyone I watched her talk to. People come to relax and enjoy, but she surely sucked that right out of the air. Not how I hoped my night would have ended after working a hectic...

I am a regular at Tropical Grille, and recommend it to my students to order for their groups often. The last 2 times I went to the TR location, I was charged too much. I reached out about it this second time, I didn’t hear back and had to reach out again. The store manager who responded was not helpful, not accurate, and never apologized. He even sent me screenshots of the prices I should have been charged, which you can see in my email on my receipt were not what I was charged.
