I used to come here a lot with my family, but we haven't been in quite a few years. When we entered, the place hadn't changed, it's still exactly the same as it's been for many years, no updates, no remodel, same old decor. The place was busy, as it always is/was, we waited for a table. When one did become available, they cleared it, but left a cleaning cloth, without ever wiping it down, so we seated ourselves, as it's always been, then wiped the table ourselves with the cloth that had been left. The server took our drink order, then delivered them without hesitation, but didn't return to take our food order, although our menus were closed and we tried to get her attention. She continued to go from table to table, asking how everything was, but seemed to be avoiding us. After finally getting her attention, we placed our food order, but the server wasn't very courteous during the interaction. When she finally delivered the food, she did not ask if we needed anything else before walking away, my wife had to catch her to ask for extra butter, which she reluctantly brought back. She never returned to check on us, until she dropped off our bill, and at that point, I realized she was done with us. So I went up to pay the bill, get a to-go box and a cup, and add a rice pudding to go. Our server was at the register, I handed her my cash, and in return, she practically threw the change at me, enough so that the coins ended up on the floor and on the counter, behind the cash register. I picked up a quarter that had fallen on the floor, the rest was somewhere on the counter. She asked how much I was missing, I responded a quarter, instead of just reaching into the open cash drawer, she proceeded to dig through all the receipts and under the register for the missing coin. When she couldn't find it, she said she'd bring it to the table. As I walked away, she asked the next person in line behind me to check the floor for more coins. After watching her move everything around she eventually brought the missing quarter and dropped it on the table without a word. I don't understand what set her off to treat us the way she had, but I will probably just write the place off as not worth...

Read moreGeorge’s Family Restaurant is an unpretentious restaurant – almost a diner. What they do have is a good menu, friendly service, well prepared food and great prices. My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening. As usual, there was a line of people waiting to be seated at a booth. Since my wife and I didn’t really care, we took a couple of seats immediately at the counter.
My wife ordered the calves’ liver with sautéed onions, mashed potatoes and vegetables (corn and green beans). I had the whitefish with French fries. All meals include soup, salad or coleslaw to start and a scoop of ice cream or a small dish rice pudding to finish. Both of our dinners were nicely prepared and tasted very good; the portion were ample.
Here’s the best part. My wife and I spent more on our breakfast at a diner this morning than we did on our dinners at George’s! I’m giving the restaurant 5 stars – not because of the ambience nor because of a fancy menu. I’m giving it 5 stars because you get a good meal with great, friendly service at the best prices I have found anywhere. Give George’s a try and you’ll be surprised by how nice a meal you’ll have and how little...
