Wanted to try somewhere new. Ordered delivery: XL Meat Lovers, Burek, a 2-Liter, and a dessert. Main number was disconnected so I called the number on the back. Guy on the phone was friendly enough and suggested the dessert. Delivery was fast and friendly so I left a big tip for the driver.
The food was disappointing to say the least. The Burek was awesome! And the 2-Liter was cold which was nice. Unfortunately, that's probably all I'd order again. The pizza was EXTREMELY scant on toppings for a $23 "Gourmet/Specialty" pizza, and lacked flavor. As for the dessert? Well, they forgot it, so I'm not sure how their desserts are. They have an impressive amount of them, though.
Having read other reviews, I know I'm not alone when I say the pizza sucks, especially for the price. My advice to the company is change the name to just "Big Apple" and stop doing pizza. Just stick to Mediterranean/Middle Eastern. It's already difficult to enter the pizza market in Troy, and other businesses have been around longer, have better quality, and are cheaper in price.
Pizza is a passion, not a product. I didn't call to complain because I was hungry and knew I was gonna eat it anyway. It's just disappointing to get pizza from a "pizzeria", pay $23, and get... something worth maybe $10. Yes, technically it had all the ingredients that go on a meat lovers, but barely.
I'm not writing this to complain, steer away business or get anything. I'm writing this to hopefully inspire change, but reviews like this are consistent, so it's unlikely. "I won't complain, I just...
Read moreDisgrace isn’t even the word I’d use to describe this pizza. I am ashamed that Rensselaer county has let this restaurant stay open. The pizza is lacking of flavors in so many different ways. I’ve had microwaved pizza at movie theaters that have tasted better then this. I’ve ordered from “big” apples 4 times now, each and every time it has been worse and worse. The sauce taste sour. The dough taste burnt, but oddly undercooked and a bitter chewy dough in the middle. When I tell you they most likely don’t date there cheese I’m not being sarcastic don’t ever order from “Big” Apples. And when I put quotes the pizza is over priced, I get it $14.99 for a good pizza with high quality ingredients should be $14.99 for a large but the toppings and even dough taste weeks old. My last order which I placed today online which says “Hoosick pizza” not “big apples” I payed $35 for a chicken bacon ranch with extra chicken and cheese that I did not receive. I later then call the restaurant being polite and the employee Alyssa says there is no order and there’s nothing she can do, I simply politely asked if she could track my order number that I gave her 9 times. And she said she doesn’t know how. Train your employees. Get better ingredients. And grow up @Big Apples. Your...
Read moreI bought slices of Margarita and cheese pizza from them. The slices were generously sized for their low price.
The crust was delightfully crunchy with that smooth, family bread texture on top where it met with the sauce. The edge was similarly a mix of bread-texture and crispy. This was surprising since they reheated the slices in their oven rather than baking them fresh. In my opinion they probably don't need to bake everything fresh to compete with most of the surrounding pizza places. I am interested so see the differences between their reheated and their fresh pizza but I can't comment on that right now.
The sauce was very mellow without much bite but this allowed the other ingredients to shine, including the crust (which I usually find is overwhelmed in most pizza recipes).
The shop was small and homey, about what you'd expect for a small business. Some of the decor (such as the chairs) could use updating but for their demographics (being right next to RPI) that's not a big concern. Overall their great value, amiable staff, and refreshing pizza win out.
I plan to eat here again and would...
