Had a rocky start when I first moved in when the historic side opened for the first time, but since management has shifted a bit, I have loved my experience! The News does a great job at fostering a sense of community with building events and availability of common spaces. I personally am a big fan of the gym and the rooftop grill. The property manager, Libby, is responsive, understanding, and overall great. Maintenance is friendly and super prompt with requests and feel like part of the community.
Street and neighbor noise is minimal (at least for me). Prices can definitely vary here; my unit was pre-leased before construction was complete, so my roommate and I got it for a deal. Rent increase per lease year is reasonable as well; mine only increased $65 after a year, which I split between myself and my roommate. The all-inclusive utilities are one of my favorite things about this building; I don't have to worry about being too cold or too warm to save money on electric! All doors are fob access, so security isn't an issue. There are lots of pets in the building and management is very pet friendly! There are fees associated with keeping dogs and cats, plus a $50 monthly pet rent per pet.
Many of the units on the historic side have beautiful features inside, and each is unique! My unit has tall ceilings and some exposed painted brick and old beams, which is neat. The natural lighting is beautiful in my unit.
The businesses in the building on the Broadway strip love residents of The News and give discounts when you show your key fob! They also sometimes will hold events in the building itself for resident appreciation, which is unbelievably cute.
Last but not least, the location of this building is prime. It is within walking distance of most stores and restaurants in Troy, and is close to the farmer's market as well. I'm a grad student at RPI so I can easily catch the shuttle at Blitman Commons right across the street. The News is located in a friendly, well-lit neighborhood, so going out at night isn't worrisome.
It's been a pleasure to live here until I finish my Ph.D. this coming summer. Definitely a wonderful place to live in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI just moved in a couple months ago and management are nice people. Julia is my go to person for any issue that may arise and maintenance are all efficient and the nicest people you'll ever have the pleasure to meet. I will admit there is some slight amount of noise that can be heard throughout the day, but the residents here are very courteous and as a whole do not have loud parties or anything of that nature. The units are all beautiful and I plan on extending my lease if I am allowed to by my current University. The surrounding area is as safe as you can get in Downtown Troy and you're always a short walk away from some amazing food options if you're ever feeling like ordering in. I believe the positives vastly outweigh any negatives people in the past have posted, although I find some of their comments hard to believe about management as a whole since I personally have not had any issues and other residents I've talked to all give maintenance and management glowing reviews...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have lived in The News since it opened two and a half years ago and love it. After 28 years living in suburban houses, we wanted to live in an urban, walking neighborhood. The location is incredible, in walking distance of restaurants, shops, the Troy Farmersā Market, local theater, the Arts Center, the Hudson River, and RPI. The building is a beautiful combination of the restored historic section and modern new construction. The building is very well maintained.
Our apartment is also beautiful with large windows and an incredible amount of natural light. We have had no issues with the apartment. The building staff is very friendly and always helpful. Occasional maintenance needs have been minor and quickly dealt with. We also love having indoor parking.
If you live in the Capital Region and want to live in a walkable neighborhood, then downtown Troy is one of very few choices, and we are extremely happy with The News in...
