We used to go here about once a month back in 2010 and 2011 and it was good. We stopped going because the food was declining, place was dirty and it was always hot inside. We tried it again tonight because friends of ours told us they thought it had improved. Could not disagree more. Lots of flies around the restaurant, many things in disrepair, dirty in places, food is bland, chicken overdone, salsa tasteless and watery, paid 9.50 for a small plate of chicken nachos, waitress kept coming to our table and asking to take our plates away while we were still eating off of them, took 25 min to get our food and there wasn't really anyone there (this is slow for Mexican restaurants), cashier asked how was dinner- told him not too good and he didn't really care, some portions were large some were way undersized. We live close by so we really want this place to be better, but it's just not. We're going to keep making the drive to our favorite place in Edwardsville- cleaner, friendlier, delicious, cheaper. Maybe we'll try again in...

BAD first impression!! Awful customer service when I tried to call in an order. Clearly they don't need my money. The lady was frustrated because she couldn't hear me due to the music in the restaurant being too loud. Somehow that was my fault so she was rude and short tempered with me when I had to repeat myself. I spoke as loudly as I could and was patient but she snapped on me and when I asked if I was causing her an inconvenience by trying to spend my money with them she hung up. No one answered the phone for the rest of the evening!! If the food is half as nasty as the service I think I'll pass... thank goodness for Terra Sur which I order from weekly! If they hadn't been closed due to an unforseen incident, I would've been ordering there per my usual. I won't even try to order from this rude & unprofessional...

It was a nice walk 750 meters just under a 1/2 mile down the street from. The pilot truckstop. As with everything in this Covid-19 era all protocols were in place, from masks required, sanitizer by the entry etc..

Service was great, food was properly prepared and my requests were all taken care of. Things like having them bring some salsa Verde in addition to their regular salsa fir the chips. Having them add fresh jalapenos to be grilled up with the rest if the peppers and onions. Extra napkins etc..

Was able to get a to go container for the leftovers including a paper bag for chips and 2 small containers for each of the salsas.

It was a great meal and have absolutely no complaints. Place ran like a well oiled machine. Will probably be back here again...

I have been to this restaurant several times with family and friends, and I am happy to give it a solid 4 stars for their extensive menu that includes many vegetarian options, their good prices, and large portions. Service has always been good, also. It is a popular place for locals who enjoy their good food and fair prices. I don’t believe that it is one of the best Mexican restaurants in terms of authenticity, but I admit that I am comparing it mostly to restaurants that I have visited in the Southwest, which have more traditional and more complex food with more seasoning and spices. Still, the food is fairly good. We will definitely return here again sometime.

Troy! You have been keeping this gem a secret! 2nd time visiting this great town and I found El Potro. Food was hot and fresh. Had the Enchilada & Tostada Dinner. It was pleasing to look at and wasn't over spiced. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The margaritas look wonderful! Great prices and the serving sizes are not small. Trucker's, there are a couple of parking spaces in the back! "Be a Beacon of light so others can find their way. Safe and happy travels!" Be'Be'
