Wanted to patronize a small local business as I passed through a small town instead of going to a national drive-thru burger joint. Saw this place and took advantage of the free parking across the street. Was a little worried as I walked towards the door and saw a sign that said steamed sandwiches. I've never had a steamed sandwich and had no idea what to expect. The woman behind the counter was very nice and suggesting the most popular sandwich on the menu, which is at the top of the specialty sandwich column. I unfortunately cannot remember the name of the sandwich right now but it had turkey and ham lettuce tomato all the usual and it was in fact steamed so the bread around the hoagie sized sandwich was very soft and everything inside was warm. It was very good but the best thing on the menu was the red pepper gouda cheese soup which I had a cup of alongside the sandwich again at the suggestion of the woman behind the counter. It was outstanding the gentleman at the cash register was a very friendly fellow also. I recommend you give it a try if you're...
Read moreWhen I walked into this deli on the square in Troy, I was immediately struck by the rich, dark furnishings. It reminds me of an old bar & grill. I ordered a wrap and soup with an iced tea. The wrap had a decent amount of meat and other toppings, but the overall flavor of the wrap reminded me of a bottle of old (vinegary) ranch dressing. The soup tasted very similar to canned vegetable, tomato soup. It wasn't bad, just pricey for the quality. Overall, I had a really filling lunch, but was pretty disappointed in the taste of my meal. They could probably cut back on the quantity of meat in the wrap and include additional flavors (more seasoning? bacon? Dijon?) and skip on the bottled dressing. I may return to try something different on the menu. My husband had the French Dip sandwich and really seemed to...
Read moreI ate at Momma Goldberg's deli for the first time today. I ordered the Cuban sandwich but without the salami and banana peppers and it was real good. The sandwich was on the small side but just enough to fill me up. The inside decore and environment was welcoming and laid-back and the people working behind the counter were pleasant. The restaurant is located downtown in the old section of Troy and you need to park around the square and then walk to the restaurant which is about 10 to 25 yards away. I will be back and recommend this to anyone looking for a good place to...
