If you want decent portions with great taste at reasonable prices THIS is your place. Owner is usually on site and things typically run very smooth. Servers are considerate and capable. Food will arrive fresh and hot. Every menu item has flavor nothing is watered down like some place's salsa or cheese. If you want a substitute side , no problem, no up charge. Double rice or bean or sub fries, whatever is okay by them. Sweet tea is strong and sweet like a Southerner likes with lemon wedges available with all drinks. Seating is comfortable with recent cushioning upgrades to all benches/booths. Cozy and tall backed for a sense of privacy. The center tables are often Chained up train style for those larger family or church groups on Sunday. Parking at peak times can be a little tight, but hey pizza hut will be empty just next door or trucks have been known to climb the curb on Wafflehouse side. Yep , it's that good. The newer Locos menu will feed a monster appetite. Try the Supreme burrito for large , and locos for bigger still. I took a star off on atmosphere just because I am not a fan of the new wall paint it tends to have folks and food looking less gorgeous or tasty than they are. .. especially the baby nursery pink and blue bathroom doors. But hey they direct that traffic well. Sports on every TV will keep you caught up but without the noise. This is a quite enjoyable place to have a meal alone, as a couple or in a large group. The layout is nice at accommodating for...
Read moreMonarcas in Troy, AL is an excellent Mexican Restaurant. I have eaten her twice now, and both times, the food was excellent. The salsa is a bit on the spicy side but good, and the chips are your average chips (not Chili's level), which hit the spot, and I was satisfied. Both times I've ordered something not on the menu but is available at most other Mexican restaurants which is called several things (Texas Rice, Carnes con Pollo, etc), but it can be best described as a bed of rice with steak, chicken, and shrimp on top of the rice with melted cheese dip sauce all over the top. It cost $17.99, but both times were delicious and highly recommended. My only negative was the tap water. I try to drink water at restaurants when possible, but the water here is tough to drink (off-putting flavor), and I had to order a soda; otherwise, it was a great experience and a great restaurant overall. Plus, on the visit tonight, they even had a live Mariachi trio....
Read moreIf you're undecided, and love the flavors of a fajita dish but want something different, get the molcajete instead. It comes with all the fajitas meats and veggies plus chorizo and cheese and nopales cactus chunks. The chicken and steak pieces are huge. This easily serves 4 people, especially if you eat the free chips and salsa. The salsa is so good. If you love it, ask for another!
We get the corn tortillas instead of flour. You can also get a rice/beans plate for each person or you can order the molcajete for however many people. It's a steal for the price and it comes out in a beautiful display. Just trust me on that. Enjoy!
Also, the fajita quesadilla is delicious! The homecoming chicken reminded me of fajitas but smothered in cheese on a bed of...
