I honestly feel sad leaving such a low review on this restaurant. I have loved every visit to Viet Pho, up until my last. I have always ordered the same thing each time I go, of course switching up on occasion. I had been hyping up this restaurant to my fiancé for months, since I am Southeast Asian and some of the dishes here were similar to what my grandmother cooked for me growing up. I wanted to be able to share that with my fiancé, and finally we had gotten the time to go and eat there. He ordered the wonton soup and I ordered the pho. We had also ordered spring rolls and egg rolls. I’m not even sure where to begin, the egg rolls lacked their usual flavor. I was so excited to eat them, and I just didn’t get that same feel like I have in the past. The spring rolls were fine, on the bland side as well. But it seemed my fiancé enjoyed them. To the entrees, just looking at my bowl of pho I could tell some things were off with it. The noodles were overcooked, and the broth was overly greasy. The initial bite was mediocre, and it was lacking something. The more I continued to eat, the more I realized my bowl almost tasted like bleach. The meat was tough and hard to chew, I could barely finish my food. My fiancé seemed disappointed right off the bat with his wonton soup. The char siu in the bowl was very thin, and well pink. Instead of that barbecued red. I tried to brush it off that it might’ve just been how it was cut, but the edges were an unnatural bright pink. It was nothing like those thick slices I was used to growing up.
I would’ve loved to chalk it up to it being a new staff. I get it, I’ve worked food service, and often I wished customers gave me a break when I was starting out. However, it does not help that now both me and my fiancé are suffering from food poisoning. I couldn’t even make it to our front door before having to hurl into the bushes.
I will say, Viet’s Pho has always been good to me in the past, and I trust the owners know what they are doing. It’s definitely a must try. I think I might just wait it out until the new staff work things out, or at least til this...
Read moreHidden gem in Alabama. Small and tucked away, and when you enter in has an elegant atmosphere that suggests fine dining, while the prices are very, very affordable.
The pho is of course the signature dish, and is indeed excellent, but the banh mi sandwiches are delicious and great for take-out. They also have a pho take-out option where they package the broth separately so you can make it just as you eat it. The broken rice, ramen, and wontons are also exemplary.
They have a wide selection of teas, but most exciting is their egg coffee. I don’t know anywhere else in the South that serves egg coffee, and it’s just as delicious as in Vietnam.
Perhaps the best thing is the price. You would normally expect to pay three times as much for the atmosphere and quality. Because of their significant student discount, it’s often got a lot of university students wanting an elegant meal on a student budget. It’s perfect for a date night with the spouse, and even a picky eater who’s afraid of foreign food will find the banh mi appetizing. I’ve also seen a guy come in to pick up a huge takeout order for a road crew, so it’s filling.
One warning — the portion sizes on the pho are huge, so if you order a large, you’d better bring...
Read moreI had an absolutely fantastic experience at Viet's Pho!
I ordered the vermicelli with BBQ pork and shrimp, paired with spring rolls (also with pork and shrimp) and topped it off with a panna cotta for dessert. Every bite was a delight!
My son had their Ramen dish, which he said was amazing, and enjoyed the same spring rolls along with a matcha parfait for dessert.
For drinks, I had Thai tea, which was perfectly balanced, and he had their Viet milk tea, which was also excellent.
The portions were substantial, and the flavors were outstanding—fresh, bold, and perfectly executed.
The service was impeccable; the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and taken care of. This restaurant has mastered the art of combining incredible food with top-notch service.
If you're looking for a place that delivers both quality and quantity, Viet's Pho is a must-visit. I can't recommend it...
